Relative to congratulating the New El Nino Wind Orchestra members on their recent achievement in winning the Silver Award at the Twentieth (20th) Anniversary of the Australian International Music Festival. 1
1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMITTEE ON RULES OF I 2 MINA'TRENTA NA LIHESLATURAN GuAHAN: 3 WHEREAS, the El Nifio Wind Orchestra is Guam's newest premiere 4 youth band, consisting of students from various middle and high schools and 5 organized by the Guam Territorial Band- the official band of Guam, USA; and 6 WHEREAS, the term "El Nifio" refers to the infant Jesus, and is more 7 commonly associated with unusually warm weather in the tropical Pacific. 8 Though the group will not be bringing inclement weather, they do wish to 9 share the warmth of paradise with the welcoming and friendly spirit of the 10 people of Guam wherever they perform; and 11 WHREAS, the El Nifio Wind Orchestra Is committed to musical 12 excellence, as this young group pledges to uphold band traditions set by the 13 masters of the past while venturing into new and exciting genres of band 14 music available today and into the future; and 15 WHEREAS, Guam's El Nifio Wind Orchestra participated in the 20th 16 Australian International Music Festival held in the City of Sydney with other 17 groups, that included Singapore, China, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, 18 California, and Alaska. They performed at several venues including Darling 19 Harbour, Angel Place City Recital Hall, and the world famous Sydney Opera 20 House. The festival included a band clinic by Dr. Anthony Mazzaferro of 21 Fullerton College; and sight-seeing tours to Toronga Zoo, the Blue Mountains, 22 the sites of the 2000 Olympic Village, and the Sydney Harbour Cruise; and 2
1 WHEREAS, the past two (2) appearances of the Guam Territorial Band 2 at the Festival earned them the 1993 (Bronze Award) and the 2005 (Gold 3 Award) and made possible the El Nino Wind Orchestra's participation in the 4 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Australian International Music Festival, 5 and they brought home the Silver Award (Command Performance 6 Instrumental Winner) from the Festival; now, therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, that the Committee on Rules of I Mina'Trenta Na 8 Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guahan and the 9 people of Guam, congratulate the NewEl Nino Wind Orchestra members on 10 their recent achievement in winning the Silver Award at the Twentieth (20th) 11 Anniversary of the Australian International Music Festival, and does express 12 Un Dangkolo Na Si Yu'os Ma'ase to them for their continued efforts to foster 13 friendships throughout the world with their music; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, that the Speaker and the Chairperson of the Committee on 15 Rules certify, and the Legislative Secretary attest to, the adoption hereof, and 16 that copies of the same be thereafter transmitted to the New El Nino Wind 17 Orchestra; and to the Honorable Felix P. Camacho, I Maga'lahen Guahan. 3
