Seminar on Human Rights Jurisprudence in Indian Constitution was organized by the Post Graduate Department of Political Science under the aegis of Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Western Regional Centre (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) at Arya College, Ludhiana. The key speakers on the occasion were Professor Sherry Sabharwal, Professor Surinder K. Shukla, Dr. Emanual Nahar from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. Viney Kapoor from G.N.D.U. Amritsar. Dr. T. L. Joshi, Principal formally welcomed the guests and apprised the audience of the importance of the issue of rights. Dr. Sunil Khosla, Seminar Convener, introduced the theme while emphasizing the need to give our people meaningful socio-economic rights which has been reflected in the shift in the approach of the court from the mechanistic to a dynamic constructive approach being vital contribution to the human rights jurisprudence. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Sherry Sabharwal. She emphasized on the sensitization of the citizenry about the issue of right in the era of development and globalization in a fast changing society. Professor Surinder Shukla, in her presidential address, brought before the audience the expansion of the right especially under the right to life while highlighting the innovative and activist role of the court. Dr. Viney Kapoor Mehra, in her valedictory address, highlighted the various developments in the rights jurisprudence in India. She emphasized the sensitization of the citizenry about the rights. More than 35 papers were presented in 4 technical sessions. Dr. Mamta Kohli conducted the proceedings of the seminar.
