Nation lauds Indian Army s Surgical Strike In the intervening night of 28-29th September, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes were conducted to pre-empt infiltration by terrorists. The operations were focussed on ensuring that terrorists don t succeed in their design to cause destruction and endanger the lives of citizens. During these counter terrorist operations significant casualties were caused to terrorists and those providing support to them. Ganga Action Plan: 14,500 new toilets built Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has released an amount of Rs. 315 crore to the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation for the implementation of Ganga action plan. Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the amount will be spent on construction of toilets along the river Ganga. 14,500 toilets have been constructed under this scheme till now. www.pmindia.gov.in Page 3 of 20

Indian Space Sector flying high at the International stage India s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, in its thirty-seventh flight (PSLV-C35) successfully launched the SCATSAT-1, for weather-related studies, and seven co-passenger satellites. India host the 1st BRICS Young Scientist Conclave The Department of Science & Technology (DST) under the BRICS framework hosted the 1st BRICS Young Scientist Conclave. 36 Rafale fighter jets to boost Indian defence French Defence Minister Jean Yves Le Drian arrived in New Delhi along with the CEO of Dassault Aviation, the makers of Rafale jets. PM envisions an 'Ease of doing Technology Business' platform On the occasion of CSIR's Platinum Jubilee Function, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged CSIR to create an 'Ease of doing Technology Business' platform. Open-Defacation free Nation: Villages towards Cleanliness On the upcoming anniversary of Swachh Bharat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the success of the initiative in the last two years. The Swachh Bharat initiative has seen the construction of nearly 2.5 crore toilets in a bid to make India open defecation free. The Prime Minister also said that one step towards cleanliness has reaped results and the whole country has taken 125 crore steps in the direction of achieving cleanliness. On his weekly Mann ki Baat address, he also claimed that every citizen has a right to know about the status of the cleanliness mission in his/her city. India to ratify Paris Climate Agreement In a bid to combat climate change, India with 170 other countries signed the Paris Climate Agreement in April 2016. Now with the ratification of the agreement, India will become one of the key countries to bring this Agreement into force. Indus Water Treaty: Rivers to be utilized to full capacity The Indus Water Treaty between the Government of India and the Government of Pakistan outlines the most complete and satisfactory usage of the Indus System of rivers. The Indus Water Treaty divides the use of rivers of the Indus basin, between India and Pakistan. The Eastern rivers i.e Beas, Ravi and Sutlej, were given to India and the Western rivers i.e Indus, Chenab and Jhelum were allocated to Pakistan. DECISIONS TAKEN AFTER THE MEETING ON INDUS WATER TREATY Maximum exploitation of the three western rivers that are under Pakistan s control. Indus, Chenab and Jhelum to be used in the areas of hydro power, irrigation and storage. MoU signed to assist cities to improve energy use efficiency Ministry of Urban Development signed a MoU with Energy Efficiency Services Limited to promote Energy Efficiency Programmes at no cost to cities. The programme aims to improve energy use efficiency in bulk water supply, public lighting and transportation across the country. Energy costs of water supply in urban areas can be reduced through energy efficiency interventions from 25% to 40%. Railways to transform catering, freight and licensing services On 29th September, Minister of Railways, Suresh Prabhu launched a number of railway services. The services are said to be a part of fulfilment of Budget Announcements 2016-17. Saksham Project for GST Integration The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday, 28th September 2016, approved a Rs 2256 crore, Central Board of Excise and Customs IT project called, SAKSHAM, This will help to integrate the CBEC s network system with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) network.
