The priority crimes remain the same for Croydon Borough as residential burglary (attempted residential burglary figures are also included in this offence group), robbery, violence against the person and theft from motor vehicle.

The figures have been taken from the crime reporting system from the 01/08/2014-31/08/2014 (the figures provided are an overview only and may not be fully accurate). Again the Town Centre ward is showing very low figures but Fairfield ward figures remain high. This is due to some offences mainly violence against the person offences have happened in the town centre but have fallen on to Fairfield ward results and not been changed. Overall there has been a decrease in the total number of priority crimes from the July figures with a decrease of 73 offences across the borough. Decreases are shown in both violence against the person (VAP) offences (-98) and theft from motor vehicle (TFMV) offences (-13). There was an increase in both burglary offences (+25) and robbery offences (+13) across the borough compared to the July figures. The cluster with the highest total figures remains the central cluster with a total of 264 which does show an increase of +16 offences from July. The cluster with the lowest total figures remains the South West Cluster with 75 which shows a decrease of -28 offences since July. Residential Burglary The cluster with the highest figures for burglary is again the Central Cluster (49) with Broad Green Ward having the highest number of burglaries on a ward (14 which is an increase of +7 offences since July). The cluster with the lowest figures for burglary is again the South West Cluster (9) with Sanderstead Ward being the only ward across the borough the have no residential burglaries reported in the month. The Central Cluster (+13), the North West Cluster (+16) and the South East Cluster (+7) all showed increases in residential burglary offences since the July figures. The North East Cluster (-1) and the South West (-10) both showed decreases since the July figures. Overall there has been an increase in residential burglary across the borough of +25 offences since the July figures. Robbery The cluster with the highest figures for robbery offences is the North West Cluster (22) this does show an increase in robbery of +8 since July figures. The ward with the highest figures for robbery is Selhurst (9). The cluster with the lowest figures for robbery offence is the South East Cluster (2). The wards that have shown no robbery offences reported in August are; Ashburton, Thornton Heath, Heathfield, Shirley, Selsdon & Ballards and Kenley. The ward showing the biggest increase for Robbery is Selhurst (+6) and the ward showing the biggest decrease for Robbery is Addiscombe (-3). Overall there has been an increase in robbery offences across the borough from the July figures (+13). Violence against the person (VAP) The cluster with the highest figures for VAP is the Central Cluster (162) this does show a decrease form July figures (- 2). The ward with the highest figures is again Fairfield Ward (64), again the Town Centre shows low numbers for VAP (13) this has been explained above that offences that have happened in the Town Centre may show on other wards figures and not have been corrected. The cluster with the lowest figures for VAP is the South East Cluster (36) and the ward with the lowest figures is Selsdon & Ballards (1).
Across the borough only five wards show an increase in VAP offences they are; Town Centre (+7), Fairfield (+1), Broad Green (+3), Crystal Palace (+3) and Kenley (+4). All other wards on the borough show a decrease in VAP offences, the ward with the biggest decrease is Woodside (-17). Overall there has been a decrease in VAP offences across the borough from July figures (-98). Theft from motor vehicle (TFMV) The cluster with the highest figures for TFMV is the North West Cluster (46) which does show an decrease since the July figures (-3). The ward with the highest number of TFMV offences is Norbury (13). The cluster with the lowest figures is the South East Cluster (19) which shows a decrease from the July figures (-11). The Town Centre again shows no reports of TFMV in August. Compared to July figures the ward showing the biggest increase for TFMV is Norbury (+8) and the wards showing the biggest decrease for TFMV are West Thornton and Purley (both -8 offences). Overall Theft from motor vehicle has shown a decrease in total with (-13) offences since the July figures. Please call 999 if it is an emergency. Victim Appeal Police in Croydon are trying to locate a couple after officers discovered holiday photos of them on a stolen memory card. On Tuesday 9th September, police arrested a 53 year old man, who is one of Croydon s top five prolific burglars for going equipped to steal and handling stolen goods. He was later bailed to return to a South London police station in November. In the males possession was a memory card containing lots of photos of a couple and their children, two daughters aged 2-4 years old on holiday, which officers believe to be in Egypt. DC John Davis, from Croydon Serious Acquisitive Crimes Unit Said: We have arrested a prolific burglar in the Croydon area who was in possession of property believed to be stolen and we are keen to identify the victims and unite them with their family photos. This will also assist us in proving further offences and ensuring the suspect is prosecuted. Croydon Police charity bike ride to Arnhem A group of Metropolitan Police officers set off from Croydon Town Hall on Tuesday 16th September, on a 326 mile journey to the Netherlands to commemorate the 70th anniversary of World War 2 Operation market Garden and to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity. It is the seventh consecutive year that police in Croydon have organised the trip that commemorates the anniversary of Operation Market Garden dubbed a bridge too far. The riders are aiming to raise 10,000 for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity. The group which included 25 current or ex-croydon officers and staff, as well as colleagues from Croydon Council and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, departed from the iconic Clock Tower at 08:30hrs and rode to Folkestone where they took the Channel Tunnel to Calais. There journey then took them across Northern France, skirting Dunkirk, before entering Belgium. The route also took them past Bruges and Antwerp before they arrives in the Netherlands for the final push to Arnhem. The group of cyclist before setting off Arriving in Arnhem on the Thursday evening entering the town over the John Frost Bridge- so named after the British commanding officer who led the allied forces at the Battle of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden. The group where welcomed by the Mayors of Arnhem and Croydon and colleagues from the local Dutch police force in Arnhem. The group also attended the annual remembrance and wreath laying ceremony held by the city of Arnhem (which is twinned with Croydon) on the Friday. Policing Team Updates Officers from the Broad Green LPT raided a flat in Nelson Close on the 23rd September and found a small cannabis factory in one of the rooms, with 17 cannabis plants. No arrests were made at the scene, but enquires are ongoing to identify those responsible. Cannabis plants found in warrant Sergeant Steve Ribano, from Broad Green LPT said: This cannabis factory was in the initial stages of being set up, so it good we have been able to disrupt it at such an early stage. We will continue to make enquiries to identify the individuals that have been involved in setting this up. I would encourage the residents of Broad Green to contact us or Crimestoppers if they have similar concerns about drugs in their neighbourhood as we can and will take action to target those involved in the production or supply of drugs. Addiscombe LPT has seen a decrease in ASB to the delight of local residents on Lower Addiscombe Road, East India Way and Railway Park. This is due to the no nonsense approach Addiscombe LPT took in dealing with the youths involved. We had 14 ABA's (anti social behaviour agreements) issued and started to issue fixed penalty notices for cycling on the footpath and littering.
On Friday 22nd August 2014, Officers from Norbury ward were on patrol checking communal areas of the London Road when they located a male with a Moped and near another Moped. Checks on both bikes revealed them to be recently stolen from Norbury and Mitcham. The male was arrested on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods and is currently on bail. A warrant was executed by an electric company with the assistance of police at an address in Kenley and around 300 cannabis plants where seized. Kenley LPT have had reports of a small white can and a van styled truck driving around in daylight hours stealing garden ornaments, pots etc. Also reports have been made of a group (unknown size) are breaking into outbuildings like garages and sheds to steal pedal cycles. It may be possible the suspects are looking at the victims address a few days before and targeting them for the pedal cycles because when entry is gained and no cycle is there then nothing is taken. Kenley LPT has asked that if anyone has witnessed anything they feel is suspicious please contact police. The Neighbourhood Watch scheme was introduced as a partnership where people come together to help make their communities safer. Working with Police, Local Authorities and other voluntary organisations as well as individuals within the community, it aimed to make neighbourhoods better places to live. An integral part of the scheme is to assist police in detecting crime by providing information about risks and informing police when incidents occur. Police cannot deal with the issues arising from crime and anti social behaviour alone; we need the help of the whole community. This is where you come in.
