Chief Okemos Sportsman s Club P. O. Box 375, Dimondale, Michigan 48821 www.chiefokemos.org or visit us on Facebook NEWSLETTER Vol. 29 No. 01 January 2016 President s Note Happy New Year! May the upcoming year bring you all you hope for. January is an important month for our Club. The January Membership Meeting is the election of new Officers and Board members. I have served my two year limit as President so we will be electing a new President along with Treasurer, Secretary, 1st Vice, 2nd Vice and four Board members. Please consider running for one of these positions or nominate someone who you think would be right for the job. It usually does not involve much more than a little time and planning. January 10th is our annual Gun Show. It s always a good time, and there are always some pretty good deals. I will be conducting a bake sale to help with Jr. and Ladies Trap. I am asking for baked goods for that sale. For more information, please call me at 517.646.9179. Every so often we find articles left on the range. If you are missing a spotting scope, please call me at 517.646.9179. December 19th was our Christmas Party. The food was fantastic and very abundant and lots of interesting conversation. I would like to thank the committee who put this together: Jim, Lois, Dawn & Jim, Jean and Gary. You did a great job. Thank you. Last I would like to thank the entire membership for all your help and support for the last two years. It s the members who make the Club; it is not the President. Keith Wright Nominations for Open Officer and Board Positions Current nominations for Officers are: President: Sharon Whaley 1st Vice: Ralph Batten 2nd Vice: Jim Hein Secretary: Jody LaClear Treasurer: Rosemary DiPonio

Current nominations for four (4) Board positions: Dennis Dann Andy Powers Dawn Hein Jerry Shihady Stuart Miller Duane Whaley These are the current names placed in nomination. However, any Class A member is eligible for these positions provided they have been a member in good standing for a minimum of three (3) years. Any member can nominate another eligible member, willing to fill one of these positions, or, if you are eligible, you can nominate yourself, from the floor on the night of the Elections. They will be held at the January 11, 2016 Membership Meeting at 7:30pm. COSC needs to hear your voice to fill these positions. Be sure to come and cast your nomination(s) and votes at this very important meeting. From Your Membership Committee Have you submitted your renewal application and dues for 2016 membership yet? If not, send in your renewal soon so you will continue to receive your Newsletter and get the new gate combination. Activities are already being planned for this year so you won t want to miss out! First 2016 Turkey Shoot Saturday, January 9, 2016 - Check in at 11:00am; Shoot at noon. Lunch will be available for purchase. For more information, please call Duane Whaley at 517.646.1611. Gun Show Sunday, January 10, 2016 is our next Gun Show featuring Antique and Modern Firearms. It starts at 9:00am and runs until 3:00pm at the Club. Admission is $3.00 per person. A bake sale is part of this show to help raise funds for the Club. If you would like to bake some goodies and donate them that morning, it would be appreciated. For more information or to reserve a table, contact John Gambill at 517.646.0681. Reloading Class COCS will be holding a Metallic Cartridge reloading class on March 5th and 6th from 9:00am till 5:00pm. Registration is at 8:00am on the 5th. Cost will be $100.00 for non-members and $75.00 for members. Any NRA instructors certified in Metallic Cartridge reloading, who are willing to help me with this class, can use the time toward their work hours. Anyone interested, please contact Ralph Batten at 517.482. 8169 and leave a message.

Camp Dinner Planning for the 2016 Camp Dinner has begun. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, March 26th this year. I hope you will join us for an afternoon & evening of fun! We have purchased the four guns for the raffle festivities before dinner. They are as follows: -Savage Stevens 320 Pump Shotgun-12 Gauge -Henry Golden Boy-.22LR -Savage Axis XP 30-06 With Scope -Browning A-Bolt II Medallion 7MM-08. Donations of new or "gently used-but in great/good condition" items are needed for the $1 and $5 raffle tables. These donations from Club members greatly help to offset the cost of the dinner. Donations can be dropped off at the Club on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month at our Membership and Board meetings, or on the Friday before the dinner from 10:00am until 7:00pm. Thanks for your help! Wild game donations are also very much needed. These can be dropped off at the Club on the Monday Meeting nights. You can also call me at 517.974.6178, or send me an e-mail at cathylfinn@comcast.net to work out a drop time, and pick up your free ticket to the dinner. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased at our Monday meetings. They are still only $15 dollars per person, children 12 & under are free. You also can send a check made out to COSC to P. O. Box 375, Dimondale, MI 48821. I will mail your tickets back to you. Or, you can always purchase tickets at the door on the 26th. Social Hour will begin at 4:00pm with cheese, crackers, and Merindorf meats. (BYOB) A Delicious Dinner will follow at 5:30pm. Volunteers will be needed again this year to help with set-up on Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, serving dinner on Saturday, and cleaning up afterward on Sunday morning around 10:30am. You can contact me at 517.974.6178 or cathylfinn@comcast.net to volunteer. Thank you...and I hope to see you at the dinner!
