HALL COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS 2018 QUALIFYING INFORMATION QUALIFYING FEES In accordance with Georgia Election Code Sections 21-2-131(a)(1)(A) and (1)(B), the Hall County Board of Commissioners set the qualifying fees for offices to be elected by Hall County voters in 2018. Such Qualifying fees were set as follows: Superior Court Judge (Deal, Fuller) $5,941.62 District Attorney $5,346.33 State Court Judge (Baldwin) $5,185.46 Solicitor $4,649.70 County Board of Education (Posts 1 & 2) $ 234.00 County Board of Education (At-Large) $ 234.00 County Commissioner (Posts 1 & 3) $ 162.00 1

WHEN & WHERE TO QUALIFY REPUBLICAN PARTY CANDIDATES APPEARING ON THE BALLOT, MAY 22, 2018: Candidates seeking nomination for the Republican Party offices shall file their Declaration of Candidacy at the Hall County Republican Headquarters, located at 715 Queen City Parkway, Suite 200 in Gainesville, Monday, March 5 th -Thursday, March 8 th from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm and Friday, March 9 th from 9:00 am until noon. INDEPENDENT & PAUPER AFFIDAVIT CANDIDATES: Georgia Election Code Sections 21-2-132 and 21-2-170. An Independent or Political Body Candidate for County Office: 1. Must file a Notice of Candidacy between 9:00 am, March 5, 2018 and Noon, March 9, 2018. 2. Pay the required qualifying fee or file a Pauper s affidavit. If filing a pauper s affidavit, candidate must also file a qualifying petition at the time of qualifying. 3. Must file a Nomination Petition between 9:00 am March 5, 2018 and Noon March 9,2018 with the Board of Elections Office at the address indicated below (see Georgia Election Code 21-2-132(d)). The earliest time for circulation of the petition is January 1, 2018. Please refer to the Elections Office for number of signature required for a Nomination Petition. A Nomination Petition may be circulated within 180 days of the last day the Nomination Petition may be filed. 3

QUALIFYING UNDER PAUPER S AFFIDAVIT Pauper s Affidavit: In accordance with Georgia Election Code, Sections 21-2-153(a.1)(1), 21-2-132, At the time of qualifying, candidates may qualify by filing a pauper s affidavit in lieu of paying the required qualifying fee. 1. Must complete Notice of Candidacy 2. Must complete a Pauper s Affidavit 3. Must submit a completed Qualifying Petition at the time of qualifying, signed by one percent of the total number of voters eligible to vote in the last election for filling of the office for which the candidate is qualifying. Please contact the Elections Office for the number of signatures required for a Qualifying Petition. 4. The Pauper s affidavit, Notice of Candidacy and Qualifying Petition must be filed at time of qualifying. The Qualifying petition may be circulated within 180 days of the last day the qualifying petition may be filed. 4

QUALIFICATIONS FOR WRITE-IN CANDIDATES WRITE-IN CANDIDATES O.C.G.A 21-2-133 Any person wishing to be a write-in candidate for the 2018 Elections must file their notice to be a write-in candidate as prescribed below: WHICH OFFICES IN HALL COUNTY ARE ELIGIBLE AS WRITE-IN: SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DISTRICT ATTORNEY HALL COUNTY STATE COURT JUDGE SOLICITOR BOARD OF EDUCATION POST 1 BOARD OF EDUCATION POST 2 BOARD OF EDUCATION AT-LARGE HALL COUNTY COMMISSIONER POST 1 HALL COUNTY COMMISSIONER POST 3 Notice of Intent to be a write-in candidate for one of these offices must be published in the Gainesville Times (official organ of Hall County) WHAT TO FILE: 1. Notice of Intention of Write-In Candidacy Form 2. Affidavit of publication which shall include: a. Statement confirming that the notice has been published; b. Date published; c. Name of Newspaper 3. Copy of Notice of Intent to be a write-in candidate as published in Newspaper. Affidavit can be made by: (1) Write-in Candidate; (2) Publisher of Newspaper; or (3) Employee of the newspaper designated by the publisher. WHEN TO FILE: January 1, 2018 September 4, 2018 The following shall be filed: (1) Notice of Intention of Write-In Candidacy Form with Election Superintendent (2) Publish notice of intention to be a write-in candidate in county legal organ (Gainesville Times).
