RESOLUTION NO. 7251 (CCS) (City Council Series) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE CERTIFICATION OF ELECTION RETURNS FOR PROPOSITION M IN SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN CITY OF SANTA MONICA AND CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATEWIDE PRIMARY ELECTION HELD JUNE 3, 1986. WHEREAS, Proposltlon M was submitted to the voters of the City of Santa Monlca at the Statewide Primary Electlon held Tuesday, June 3, 1986, conducted by Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, said proposition the total number of votes cast for and have been calculated and certified by against Charles Welssburd, Registrar-Recorder of the County of Los Angles, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The vote total, as certified to by Charles We~ssburd, Registrar-Recorder of the County of Los Angeles, shall be and ~s hereby approved and adopted as the formal vote count of the C~ty of Santa Monica regardlng Proposition M. SECTION 2. The follow~ng measure was voted upon: PROPOSITION M. Shall Artlcle XVIII of the City Charter, entitled "Rent Control," be amended by adding certain new sectlons and amending certain existing sectlons to provide that upon voluntary vacancy of a controlled rental unit the landlord may establ~sh a new base rent for such controlled rental unit ~f the landlord complies w~th the provision of a program entitled "Tenant Incentive Program"? - 1 -

SECTION 3. As a result of the election, a ma3ority of voters voting on Proposltlon M dld not vote in favor of ~t. The Propos~ton was not carried and shall not be deemed adopted and ratified. The attached Exh~blt A certifies that 27,284 total ballots were cast in the City during the elect~on; 17,202 votes were cast against Propositon M and 7,542 votes were cast for Proposition M. Attachment Exhibit B reports the number of votes at each preclnct. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall enter above particulars on the records of the City Counc~l of the City of Santa Monica. SECTION 5.
