BACKGROUND Canada operates a variety of immigration programs to facilitate people s entry into Canada. These are divided into three categories: 1. For foreign people seeking to enter Canada on a short-term basis as visitors 2. For foreign people seeking to enter and work and/or study in Canada on a temporary basis as workers and students 3. For foreign people seeking to enter and work in Canada on a permanent basis as permanent residents

Valid for up to five years, multiple entry for short stays (normally for up to six months at a time) to study, transit through, visit or do business.

Student Work Mobility Programs A valid study permit allows you to: Work up to 20 hours/week off campus during the semester Work full time off campus during holidays Tool to determine your eligibility to work off campus: www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-assess.asp COOP Work Permit Work permit is required for an internship or co-op component of your study program : Valid study permit Work is an essential part of the program of study in Canada Cannot be more than 50% of the program of study length Is not authorized if it is a second language program, preparatory course or general interest program
Study Work Mobility Programs Post-graduation work permit : After completing a full time study program and being eligible to graduate Deadlines: Study permit must still be valid when application is submitted Must apply within 90 days of receiving confirmation that you have successfully completed your program Validity: KEY: dependent on length of study, from 8 months to 3 years (e.g., 2 year course of study = 2 year work permit) Open work permit
Accompanying Family members Spouses, common law partners and children may apply to accompany main applicants and obtain an work/student permit Children who will study in Québec will require a CAQ Requirements: If the principal applicant is a student, family may accompany if: Study if full time at post-secondary institution Study cannot be ESL or FSL programs If the principal applicant is a worker, family may accompany if: Work permit is valid for a minimum of 6 months Employment is skilled (occupation classified as 0, A or B under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system).
Study/Work in Canada: Processing times Visitor Visa (short-term studies of 6 months or less): 80% are processed in 7 business days A multiple entry visa can be issued up to 10 years or the expiry date of the passport minus one month Study Permit: 80% are processed in 6 weeks Work Permit: 80% are processed in 8 weeks It is recommended to submit a study/work permit application at least 8 weeks before the start of the program

Quebec Skilled Worker Program Becoming a permanent resident through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program involves two stages: The province of Quebec first assesses applications for nomination and issues a CSQ (certificate of selection for Quebec) certificates Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada then processes the permanent resident applications Individuals chosen by Quebec must; intend to reside there, have the ability to integrate into the local economy
Express Entry International students may apply to stay in Canada permanently under the Express Entry program, specifically the Canadian Experience Class. Qualifications: have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before applying have gained experience in Canada with the proper authorization meet the minimum required language levels plan to live outside the province of Quebec

No occupational restrictions. No additional fees for Express Entry. Temporary Foreign Workers are able to participate from Canada.
