Ethiopians May 1 st Demonstration in Sweden 5/2/2011 This year May 1st celebration in the Capital City of Sweden, Stockholm has been as huge as it has always been with thousands of demonstrants ; Swedish and other nationalities. The Pro Democracy Ethiopian activists living in Sweden have therefore demonstrated on May 1st as has been done for many years. Interestingly, even this year the celebration was as well coordinated as last year. Last year, thanks for the well coordinated preparation prior to the demonstration, we the Pro Democracy Ethiopian activists had been very successful in our lobby activities to the point that the Chairman of the Swedish biggest Opposition Party i.e the Swedish Social Democratic Party Chairman Mrs Mona Sahlin, specifically mentioned in her MAY 1st speech that the Ethiopian regime had to release Birtukan Mideksa and must allow a democratic change to take place. To make our demand explicitly being included in the Party Chairman s speech was not a simple thing, but rather a result of a well planned and coordinated lobby activity between the Pro Democracy Ethiopian activists in Sweden and the true advocates of democracy within the Swedish Social Democrat Party. So this year, contrary to last year we the Ethiopians Demonstrants on May 1st to some extent had expressed a feeling of joy and victoriousness for having been able to contribute our share to the global diplomatic pressure which was mounted by Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopians on Meles/woyanne regime which finally led to the release of UDJP ex-chairman Judge Birtukan Mideksa. Nevertheless, regardless of our joy over the release of our heroic leader Judge Birtukan Mideksa, this year, our sorrow has unfortunately even become deeper because of the further deterioriation of the political and economical situation to a climax point since the Meles/Woyanne regime came to power for 20 years ago. We therefore strongly condemned the Mass arrest of innocent Ethiopians in different parts of the country under different fictitious reasons, as we also did condemn the selling of Ethiopians most fertile lands to foreign investors for dirt-cheap prices at the expense of Ethiopian farmers and the fragile ecology of these areas. In connection to the Mass arrest, We also condemned the so called Woyanne s GTP (Growth and Transformation plan) which is totally designed without any consent, and any kind of involvement of the Ethiopian people, and rather has been more and more known as a plan for Growth of TPLF s Pockets, which by far the most majority of Ethiopians is regarded : As a means for further fattening the few Woyanne officials pocket. For strengthening EFFORT ( Endowment Fund for the Rehabilitation of Tigrai), and the likes as it systematically will push Ethiopian business owners out of the market due to a lack of a level playing field. As a means for further imposing Meles\Woyanne regime s tyrannical rule over the vast majority of the Ethiopian people.

We also did condemn Meles/Woyanne regime s cunning effort to use a propaganda of the national agenda of building of dam over Nile as a distraction technique for not responding to Ethiopians' immediate demand for a democratic change to take place in the country. As a whole we took the MAY 1 st celebration as as a good opportunity to amplify the stand of our voiceless Ethiopian people who are at this very moment struggling hard demanding for democracy, liberty, equality and the end of a minority racist Meles/Woyanne regime dominance. In general we celebrated May 1st in a colourful way holding our real green, yellow and red Ethiopian Flag up and demonstrated so effectively as being the voice of our voiceless people, chanting the current hot slogan at home in Ethiopia i.e BEKA Woyanne /Beka Meles regime!!!

The Pro Democracy Ethiopians activist group demonstration was so colourful, well coordinated and vibrant among the many thousand demonstrants in Stockholm, and was easily noticeable to the point that it attracted the attention of journalists from the popular Swedish News Paper called Metro and consequently resulted in one of the group coordinators to be requested to give an interview. So the Metro journalist interviewed the Ethiopian Democratic Activist Wzo Mekdes Worku why she found it important to demonstrate on May 1st? Why is it important for you to demonstrate today?(the swedish to English translation) The Ethiopian Radiology Nurse Mekdes Worku gave the Metro journalist very short & concise answer. It's a day for all the people of the world who want to have democracy, and I am here today to manifest my support to all people who want to have democracy, specially I am here today to manifest my support for the downfall of the Meles Dictatorship regime and for Democracy to come in my country Ethiopia. (Read the source below in Swedish)

Take a look at more pictures from the demonstration

The DIASPORA PRO DEMOCRACY ETHIOPIANS STRUGGLE WHICH IS A PART AND PARCEL OF THE Larger BEKA-MELES/WOYANNE REGIME MOVEMENT OF ETHIOPIANS AT HOME, WILL NEVER STOPP UNTIL THE VICTORY DAY COMES WHERE A REGIME WHICH IS DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED BY THE VAST MAJORITY OF ETHIOPIANS AND WHICH WILL WORK FOR ALL ETHIOPIANS COMES TO POWER. We Ethiopians like our North African Brothers & sisters in Tunisia and Egypt, know how to force dictators to kneel down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=swvjxasisz8
