Commissioner Sparkman stated that that he feels that the purchase of this type equipment is unnecessary and would prove to be too costly to the City to operate and maintain. Commissioner Sparkman commented that he feels that there are less expensive alternative methods to transport the Menzi Muck and that he could not support the purchase of the semi-truck or lowboy trailer. Mark Emery, General Services Supervisor commented that the Menzi Muck exceeds the weight limit of any vehicle that the City currently uses to transport heavy equipment. The purchase of proposed equipment would be necessary to be able to transport the Menzi Muck to locations as needed to maintain and perform storm cleanup throughout the City. He also stated that trailer could be utilized for hauling other City equipment as needed. Mr. Emery commented that in the past, the cost to outsource services for transportation of large fleet equipment has exceeded over $250.00, per occurrence. After discussion, it was the consensus of the Commission to refer the matter back to City Staff and for them to review the total cost of ownership associated with purchasing and maintaining this type of equipment and report their findings back to the Commission for further consideration.
