Uthando ( Love ) South Africa is a non-profit organisation and truly unique Responsible Tourism Initiative based in Cape Town, South Africa Uthando South Africa is presenting the tourism industry with an innovative and unique social responsibility initiative

As a social development broker Uthando South Africa will: select the projects to receive funding ensure that the projects meet minimum standards before they receive funding ensure that projects comply with the highest standards of accountability and transparency report back to benefactors on a regular basis through newsletters and annual financial reports and directors reports

The mission of Uthando South Africa is to provide a platform to raise funds from organisations, groups and individuals Money generated supports the broad range of grass roots, community based, sustainable, innovative and empowerment projects with substantial value to destitute and marginalized communities in South Africa

Uthando South Africa aims to provide tourists with an authentic introduction to the social problems confronting many South Africans, and the innovative and truly inspirational ways in which these problems are being handled

Income Streams Primary generation is via a levy added onto each itinerary sold, in which South Africa is the destination A minimum itinerary value will be left up to each operator to decide e.g. only itineraries over a certain amount will have the levy added to it Suggested levies: 15 20 US$30

Income Streams Secondary cultural field trips (township tours) The retail cost of the tour is R650.00 Rates are commissionable at 10 percent to tour operators, ie Nett Rate Per Person is R585.00 Considering the nature of this tour, tour operators may wish to waive claiming the commission on the tour

Cultural Field Excursions (Township Tours) Not a sightseeing tour, but an AUTHENTIC interactive tour to see, learn, experience, feel and leave inspired Quality and non-commercialised People at the various projects are not putting on an act, but rather going about their daily activities - informing and educating on social issues and showcasing the solutions

Cultural Field Excursions (Township Tours) Scheduled tours commenced on 1 July 2008 and can accommodate 7 people Run Monday to Saturday and everyday we visit different projects, so as not to intrude or leave a big footprint Ad hoc tours for groups and individual tours arranged by appointment

Cultural Field Excursions (Township Tours) For the traveller who is interested in: venturing off the beaten track, and who is not satisfied with just visiting the tourist sites learning as much as possible about the destination and its people visiting a diverse range of interesting and positive projects discussing local issues with extraordinary South Africans doing amazing things in the very poor areas of Cape Town
