TABLE OF CONTENTS General Information 3 Scope and Content Note 4 Series Description 5 Container List 6-9 2

GENERAL INFORMATION Accession Number: 98-08 Size: 3.7213 cu. ft. Provenance: The Professional Staff Congress of The City University of New York Restrictions: None. Location: Range 6 Section 2 Shelves 11-12 Archivist: Prof. Julio L. Hernández-Delgado Date: December 2001 Revised: November 2014 3

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The Professional Staff Congress/CUNY Collection is small in size and doesn t pretend to thoroughly document the establishment, evolution, and impact of a union which evolved from the merger of the Legislative Conference (LC) and the United Federation of College Teachers (UFCT) in April of 1972. PSC/CUNY has negotiated contracts and has advanced the interests of faculty, staff, and retirees for 42 years. We can only hope that they have preserved and maintained their historical records for examination by future researchers. The bulk of the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY Collection consists of contractual agreements between the Legislative Conference, the United Federation of College Teachers Local 1460 AFL - CIO, the PSC/CUNY and the Board of Higher Education from 1969 to 2008. The contracts are in booklet format and are easy to read. Publications that were produced by the PSC/CUNY from 1972 to 2014 and by groups of faculty and staff which questioned the direction and management of the PSC/CUNY from 1997 to 2007, is the next major component of this collection. Despite the size of the collection, researchers will find documents and publications which shed light on the PSC/CUNY which has consistently advocated and negotiated for the interests of its constituents for over 42 years. Note: For a brief history of the first 25 years of the PSC/CUNY see 25 Years of Progress Professional Staff Congress, 1997, in Box 12, Folder 14. 4
