THE CONSTITUTION OF THE SAFFORD HIGH SCHOOL ART CLUB PREAMBLE We, the student citizens of Safford High School Art Club, in order to establish justice and equality, stimulate school pride, tradition, loyalty, and initiative, develop respect and fellowship, and thereby prepare ourselves to be better citizens, do hereby adopt this constitution and repeal all former constitutions and bylaws heretofore adopted by us. Article I. NAME & PURPOSE Section 1 The organization shall be known as the Safford High School (SHS) Art Club. Section 2 The purpose of this organization shall be to support events, field trips and scholarships of art students at Safford High School with suggestions, assistance, ideas, enthusiasm, and with fundraising activities. Article II. MEMBERSHIP & RIGHTS Section 1 Membership in the SHS Art Club shall be open to all students who meet the following requirements MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Must be currently enrolled as a Safford High School Student. Must be currently enrolled or have had a completed Must have at least one year of membership in SHS Art Club or be sponsored by a current member of SHS Art Club. Must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0, and cannot be on the Ineligibility List more than three times. Must pay club dues by the given due date, typically the second Friday of September. Must volunteer at least two hours a month to SHS Art Club activities, events, and fundraising activities (does not include meetings or field trips) throughout the entire school year. Exceptions may only be made for school related activities and must be approved by the club sponsor. Must complete required volunteer hours by the second Friday of December in order to participate in the annual Renaissance Festival field trip. Section 2 It shall be a privilege of all members of the SHS Art Club to actively participate in the activities sponsored by the SHS Art Club and take advantage of all those things financed by the payment of the said fee. Section 3 Students whose conduct is unbecoming to Safford High School may be required by the club sponsor to relinquish membership in the SHS Art Club or carry out punishment assigned by the club sponsor. Section 4 FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS: The SHS Art Club shall meet regularly at least once a month, on the second Tuesday of every month after school. The President, Vice President, or Activities Coordinator, with the consent of the club sponsor, may call special meeting of the SHS Art Club. Section 5 Any qualified club member may run for officer.
Article III. CLUB OFFICERS Section 1 QUALIFICATIONS PRESIDENT: Must be a senior who has attended Safford High School for at least two years. Must have been a member of SHS Art Club for at least two years with at least one Must have a GPA of at least 3.0, and cannot be on the Ineligibility List more than VICE PRESIDENT (President- In- Training): Must be willing to step into Presidential office the following year. Must be a junior who has attended Safford High School for at least two years. Must have been a member of SHS Art Club for at least two years with at least one Must have a GPA of at least 3.0, and cannot be on the Ineligibility List more than SECRETARY & ASSISTANT SECRETARY: TREASURER & ASSISTANT TREASURER: Must have no semester grade lower than a B (80%) in any math class. Must have access to a camera and a computer with Internet access. HISTORIAN: Must have access to a camera and a computer with Internet access.
ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR: Section 2 DUTIES PRESIDENT: Help preside over general club meetings and participate in officer meetings. Help with any of the officer duties if that officer is not present. VICE PRESIDENT (President- In- Training): Help the President with their duties as a team. Help preside over general club meetings (when the President is not present) and participate in officer meetings. Help with any of the officer duties if that officer is not present. SECRETARY: Take legible notes at all general club meetings and officer meetings. Post the meeting notes on the club webpage and/or school club page. ASSISTANT SECRETARY: Help the Secretary with their duties as a team. Take legible notes at all general club meetings (when the Secretary is not present) and officer meetings. Post the meeting notes on the club webpage and/or school club page, when the Secretary is not present.
TREASURER: Keep records of all SHS Art Club income and expenses Meet with club sponsor monthly to assure accuracy. Report income and expenses to the SHS Art Club at each general meeting. Participate in officer meetings. Collect and distribute money at events, activities, and fundraisers (Both Treasurer & Assistant Treasurer may be required at some events / activities). ASSISTANT TREASURER: Help the Treasurer with their duties as a team. Help the Treasurer keep records of all SHS Art Club income and expenses. Report income and expenses to the SHS Art Club at each general meeting, when the Treasurer is not present. Participate in officer meetings. Collect and distribute money at events, activities, and fundraisers (Both Treasurer & Assistant Treasurer may be required at some events / activities). HISTORIAN: Participate in general meetings and officer meetings. Help with attendance records of all meetings, events, activities, and fundraisers. Take photos at all events, activities, fund- raisers, and field trips. Post photos on the club webpage and/or school club page, as well as in the hallway bulletins. Compile a SHS Art Club Portfolio/Scrapbook. ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR: Participate in general meetings and officer meetings. Help organize and announce (including reminders of) meetings, events, activities, fund- raisers, and field trips. Help with keeping records of club members volunteer hours. Help the Historian with their duties as a team.
Section 3 ELECTIONS PROCEDURES: To run for the preceding offices, the candidates must have completed the officer application form and returned it to the club sponsor to be nominated by the current club officers. Once the current officers have nominated their choices for officers, the nominated officer candidates will present themselves to the current club members. ELECTION & BALLOTS: Voting will be by secret ballot and will be tallied up by a non- SHS Art Club Faculty Member. Elections will be held at the final SHS Art Club meeting every year. It shall take a majority vote of the votes cast to elect all officers. Article IV. IMPEACHMENT OF CLUB OFFICERS Section 1 Any member of the SHS Art Club Officers may be impeached for not exercising those qualities detrimental to good citizenship, or if he/she does not discharge the duties of his/her office properly. Charges may be brought by any member of the SHS Art Club to the club sponsor. Section 2 A case involving impeachment of a SHS Art Club Officer will be presided over by the club sponsor, with all SHS Art Club Officers in attendance as well as randomly selected SHS Art Club members. The random SHS Art Club members will serve as an unbiased jury, and the SHS Art Club Officers will present the charges to the club sponsor and present club members. Section 3 A three/fourths vote of the present SHS Art Club members shall be necessary to impeach a SHS Art Club Officer. Article V. BYLAWS, QUORUM, & RATIFICATION BYLAWS: Section 1 The SHS Art Club shall have the authority to create and amend bylaws to this constitution, following the procedures to do so. Section 2 Bylaws may be created or amended only in such a way that they do not contradict any part of this constitution. Section 3 A two- thirds vote of the members present at any SHS Art Club meeting, in so much as a quorum is in attendance, shall be required to create or amend any bylaws to this constitution. QUORUM: Section 1 A quorum shall consist of a majority of SHS Art Club members present at any given meeting. RATIFICATION: Section 1 A two- thirds vote of the voting SHS Art Club members shall be required to ratify this constitution.
Article VI. AMENDMENT Section 1 An amendment to this constitution may be proposed by a two- thirds vote to the SHS Art Club members. Section 2 A majority vote of the voting SHS Art Club members shall be necessary to amend this constitution. Article VII. INITIATIVE Section 1 Any SHS Art Club member may propose matters for Legislation by submitting to the SHS Art Club Officers a petition bearing the signatures of twenty percent of the SHS Art Club membership. Section 2 It shall be mandatory for the SHS Art Club Officers to place the proposal before the SHS Art Club for a vote within ten school days after receiving said petition. Section 3 If the proposed matter is approved by a majority vote of the total SHS Art Club membership, then it shall become part of the rules governing the SHS Art Club. Article VIII. REFERENDUM Section 1 Any SHS Art Club member may petition to void an act of the SHS Art Club by submitting a petition to the SHS Art Club Officers, which bears the signatures of twenty percent of the total SHS Art Club membership. Section 2 Procedures will follow the same as of Article VI INITIATIVE. Section 3 The SHS Art Club Officers may submit measures to the SHS Art Club for approval or disapproval.
