Call for Applicants EUROPEAN WEEKEND SCHOOL 2012 EU s Chronic Dilemma: Migration 10-12 May 2012 Jean Monnet Center of Excellence Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey With the support of Friedrich Naumann Foundation NOTE: Please forward this message/event to the people that might be interested in. As the deadline is approaching, please note that this is the last call for applicants! (CESSF) cordially invites you to the 10th European Weekend School (EWS 2012) which will be held on 10 12 May 2012 at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. EWS is an international certificate program that brings together undergraduate and graduate students from all over Europe; and enables them to exchange opinions with distinguished politicians, bureaucrats, academics, representatives of NGO's, and leading journalists. EWS 2012 will be held this year with 50 participants from both European countries and exchange students in Turkey, which will be executed on the principle of deliberative discussion, based on the idea of enabling interaction between participants and speakers during the panels and to involve every participant directly to the discussion of topics in the student workshops. The conference will be conducted through the topics of: The Impact of Rising Conservatism on Migration and Immigrants Expectations and Experiences of New Member and Future Member States on Migration Issues Migration Policies of the EU in Light of Arab Spring Besides the panels and student workshops that will be held for 2 days, there will be social programmes including a cocktail prolongé and a boat trip for participants to enjoy the glorious view of Bosphorus at night. EWS 2012 is open to all university students, including foreign exchange students, who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree in Turkey, Europe or overseas regardless of their country of origin or their age. Please find the application form attached to this document. It is also available at http://. The filled application forms should be sent to acmof@boun.edu.tr. In the application process, the applicants must submit a position paper about following topics: The Impact of Rising Conservatism on Migration and Immigrants, OR Expectations and Experiences of New Member and Future Member States on Migration Issues, OR Migration Policies of the EU in Light of Arab Spring. The position papers will reflect the level of interest and knowledge of the applicant on the topics that will be discussed in the conference. The position papers of the applicants will be written single spaced, typed in 12 pt with TNR, Arial, Verdana or Calibri fonts, not exceeding one page and only about one of the topics stated above. Deadline for application is 23 March 2012, Friday. Selected participants will be notified by 25 March 2012, Sunday. Participants will have to pay a participation fee of 100 Euros after they arrive. The participants who won t be accommodating in our premises will have to pay a participation fee of 60 Euros upon their arrival. The panels, workshops, food, social programme and accommodation expenses of the participants will be covered by the organization. Besides the dinners, lunches, intercultural activities and many other things, the social programme of the organisation also includes a cocktail prolongé and a party on a boat trip at Bosphorus.
