First United Methodist Christian School Parent Teacher Fellowship By-Laws 2015-2016 The name of this organization will be First United Methodist Christian School Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES -The purpose shall be to help parents and teachers work together in the school s objective of Christian education. -Help parents understand and appreciate their children and provide parents with the necessary skills for the Christian nurture and training of their children. Help teachers understand the need of the Christian home and extend their influence into the family. -To engage in projects which increase the school s effectiveness through fundraisers and overall support. -Help develop a closer relationship between the home and FUMCS, as well as cooperation between parents and teachers. -To commit to a strong prayer support for the success of FUMCS. -To give parents the opportunity to get involved with the school staff and activities MEMBERSHIP Membership in the PTF shall be open to: 1. All parents and guardians who have children enrolled at FUMCS; 2. All FUMC pastors; and 3. All FUMCS teachers and staff members All members shall be entitled to participate in all the activities of the PTF and shall have the right to vote. EXECUTIVE BOARD, The Executive Board shall consist of the elected officers of the PTF. The Executive Board shall integrate and coordinate the plans of the several committees. It shall also evaluate the programs and activities of the PTF with the view of fulfilling the commitment and active support of FUMCS endeavors. Co-Chairperson: Angelle Mugnier Secretary: Kelly Regalado Treasurer: Jennie Garrett COMMITTEE COORDINATOR Committee Coordinator shall be appointed by the Executive Board to achieve the purpose and objective of the PTF. Coordinator position can be held by any non-staff member. The following committees may be adjusted by the Executive Board from time to time as needed: Pizza Lunch Hot Dog Lunch Dress Down Day Holiday House Rodeo Float/Parade Box Top Room Parent Capri Sun Book Fair (2) ELECTION OF OFFICERS Election of officers shall be held during the last PTF General Membership meeting of the school year. Those elected will assume their duties on June 1st for a one year term. The Executive Board will present a slate of officer candidates. PTF members may make additional nominations from the floor prior to the election with the consent of the nominee. The candidate receiving a majority of the votes shall be declared elected. In the event of a vacancy in the office of Chair, the Co-Chair shall succeed to the office of Chair for the remainder of the term or at the Co-Chair s request, a new Chair may be elected at the next PTF General Membership meeting. In the event of a vacancy in the office of Co-Chair, Secretary, or Treasurer the vacancy shall be filled by election at the next PTF General Membership meeting. Nominations are to be made from the floor at that time. The candidate receiving a majority of the votes shall be declared elected. CONDUCTING MEETINGS Meetings are held 4 times a year. These are held on a Monday in the Family Life Center located at the Church. Child care is available free of charge during the PTF meeting. Call to order is initiated by the Chair, followed with an opening prayer. An agenda should be created and available 1 week prior to meeting. PTF Bylaws 2015-2016 Page 2
The Secretary is responsible for the accurate keeping of minutes, agendas, sign in sheets and reports. Minutes will be taken at every meeting and shall be approved by the principal, printed and kept in a binder and available for review by any school member. The Treasurer is responsible to gather the reports from the school s bookkeeper before each meeting and shall share their finding at each meeting. Decisions needing to be made shall be made with the members present at any given meeting, through a majority rules approach. Present teachers shall have a vote in such issues. The principal has no voting rights, but is responsible for the approval of any item reaching a vote. The principal holds the right to remove something off the table, table a vote/decision, and/or exercise sound judgment when necessary. All issues and/or concerns shall be brought up only at a PTF meeting and will not be taken into account if brought up outside of the PTF organization. Any issue may be brought to the attention of the board prior to a meeting to be added to the agenda. All items being brought forth shall be done in Christian Love and shall be initiated in a loving and non-threatening manner. The principle holds the right to reject and/or address any items brought forth. ASSIGNEMENTS Each classroom shall indicate a room parent, who is responsible to assist the teacher with any and all events The PTF is solely responsible for several events throughout the year, which include but are not limited to: Pizza lunches, Holiday House, and Teacher Appreciation Week. Funds collected through various PTF exclusive fundraisers are deposited into the PTF account. These funds may be accessed through a majority vote at a PTF meeting for specific items, or an executive vote between four officers and the principal. Every effort to reach a decision at a PTF meeting will be made before resorting to an executive vote. FUMCS is a non-profit organization. Prayer and Motto The PTF is invited to actively participate in large or small scale in any of the events that make FUMCS a special place to learn about God. For the success of all events, we ask that an active participation throughout the year be maintained. The PTF prides itself in connecting families to the mission of our school.
