Bay Date of Birth November 5, 1953 Law Firm Name (if applicable) Thompson Coburn LLP Principal Office Street Address 505 North 7th Street, Suite 2700 City, State St. Louis, MO Law School from which Graduated University of Michigan Date and State First Admitted to the Bar September 9,_1978,_Missouri Statement by the Candidate: AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION Chair, House of Delegates The House of Delegates provides the unique forum to debate issues facing our legal system. Whether members speak for themselves or represent others, the House listens and respects all points of view, strives for consensus and then speaks as only it can - for the profession and the justice system. That is the genius of the House of Delegates. Our collective voice is needed now more than ever to confront the challenges to our profession, practices, communities and courts. Having served on many House committees and as its reporter, I appreciate the great work by leadership and staff that make it function. As President of the St. Louis Bar and member of the Missouri Bar Board, I witnessed the House address issues that matter to lawyers as they practice in their communities. When I served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services, I had the privilege of working closely with our local, state and special focus bars in the vital role they play in our Association. As a former Chair of the Section of Litigation, I understand the value of the Sections/Divisions/Forums and the views and concerns they bring to the House. My service on the ABA Board of Governors and as Finance Chair has taught me about our complexity and challenges. I am excited about the opportunity to engage with these groups in the House. I continue to learn every day, but two things stand out. We are better when every part of our profession is heard; and sometimes the best solutions come from unlikely places. That is why the House matters more than ever as we strive to speak for the profession. Regardless of background, practice, location or interest, I have found the great strength of our Association is our shared purpose and heritage. The diversity of the House reflects that strength. I promise my commitment, energy and passion to the values we espouse and the bond we share - an Association that advocates for the rule of law, promotes public service, leads in diversity and ensures all voices are heard. I know the responsibility that comes as Chair of the House. Great leaders have served in this role. I am prepared to work hard, with optimism and enthusiasm, and pledge my best. I look forward to discussions with you as I seek your support to serve as the next Chair of the House of Delegates. I have read the Rules and agree to abide by them. ALQ7?.
