September 13, 2013 Minutes approved Guest Speakers Dr. Gentry McCreary- Assistant Dean of Students He reviewed Academic Integrity Week that was hosted earlier this month. He also presented some statistics and additional information about academic misconduct. A key way to make Academic Integrity Week a major success next year would be to continue to increase visibility of the event. The University Outreach presented Dr. Gentry McCreary with the Academic Integrity Banner filled with student signatures. V. New Business 13-14 B V-Freshman Bill Motion to forego the first reading of the bill by Senator Ariars, second by Senator Denney No debate, no opposition, motion passes 23-0-0 Author: Chair Ibrahim gains the floor Motion to amend the bill: strike out Title I 101.14 letter J and Title 3 300.2 letter D s last sentence (Freshman Chair). Amendment passed 22-0-0 Motion to suspend the rules of debate by Senator Crawford, second by Senator Write. No debate, no opposition, motion passes 22-0-0 Bill passes 22-1-0 Motion to move to the previous question by Senator Bennet, Seconded by Chair McBurney. VI. Appointments Chair Ibrahim motions for a one minute recess to adjust voting details seconded by Senator Goldsberry. Legislative Addresses Senate President Self: Reminder that September 27 th is SGA Leadership Development Day in partnership with Career Services. Please bring your resume and dress professionally for critique. Rules and Statutes Chair Ibrahim: The committee is working on a sunshine bill to bring before senate soon. University Outreach Chair McBurney: Thank you for Senator for your support for Academic Integrity Week. We are beginning discussions on Academic Town Halls. Student Outreach Chair Singletary: We discussed upcoming event including; Hand to Paw event on October 2 nd from 11am- 1pm, a UWF Food Pantry meeting and the State of the University Address by President Bense on September 26 th. Also the committee is working on an SGA Newsletter with a review of things that SGA worked on over the summer. We currently have the tailgate survey going on around campus. An admissions survey has been created target just for Freshmen and will be sent out soon. Budget and Allocations Chair Thrasher: Two Travel Grants: $600 Christian Steffanini $1000 Cody James & Andrew Willard New incentives to connect those granted with SGA travel funds to provide us an update on their travels. Also the A&S Manual will be updated through a bill during the next Senate meeting. VIII. IX. Judicial Addresses: Chief Justice- Kelly Hill: Provided an over view of the current judicial system. Executive Addresses President Hill: This morning, he attended the Board of Trustees meeting where a recommendation was approved to support football. Also a motion passed to support raises for non state funded employees. He presented the SGA Integrity Board to the Board of Trustees and revealed the locations in the Commons. Florida State Association (FSA) will be next weekend in Orlando, FL. The board of Trustees passed a bonus and increase in salary for President Bense. Congratulations to the Freshmen. His Office hours are publically posted on the SGA website.
Vice President Wood: She congratulated the Freshmen and explained what happened during their first meeting. Then she provided updates from the UWF Foundation s Board of Directors meeting. Chief of Staff Sosa: He enjoys seeing the enthusiasm and debate through the Senate. He has been working on meeting with the directors and showed the updates he has created for the UWF SGA website.
