MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF GIFFORD COMMUNITY CONSOLIDATED GRADE SCHOOL DISTRICT #188 February 20, 2018 Gifford, Illinois The regular meeting of the Board of Education, Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188, Gifford, Illinois was held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Gifford Grade School Board Room. Pledge of Allegiance & Roll Call The meeting was called to order by President Michael Schluter at 6:00 p.m. The following members answered present to roll call: Neil Baker, Brandi Hedrick, Chad Hesterberg, Matt Lomax and Michael Schluter. Angela Crawford and Travis Huls were absent. Also present were Mr. Rod Grimsley, Superintendent; Diane Baker, Office Manager; Teresa McClain, Lori Miller and Tammy Pollard, Faculty; Ralph Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Cline, Phil Wake, Brodie Crozier, Community; Dave Hinton, Rantoul Press and Channel 3 reporters. Public Hearings and Petitions Ralph Cox asked the board to reconsider the firing of Mr. Grimsley. He also asked if there was an investigation as to any other documents he may have falsified. Brandie Hedrick said Mr. Grimsley had cooperated with all that was asked of him and did not deny the wrong doing of the form. He said he talked to Chad Hays and Chad Hays told him the board needs to go through everything to make sure nothing else has been turned in incorrectly. Matt Lomax told him that was just an opinion from Chad Hays and Chad Hays only. Ralph Cox said the open meetings act states that the board needs to make the executive meeting minutes open to the public. Mr. Cline said he had also talked with Chad Hays. Mr. Cline also wanted to know why the drills have not yet been completed. Mrs. Cline also asked why drills have not been completed. She said the tornado drill should have been done at the beginning of school starting. She also asked how many drills we do. She wanted it clear to the board the responsibility they have for the school and the kids. Board Correspondence An invitation for the board for the IASB meeting on March 1, 2018 in Champaign. Report of the Superintendent -see attached Report of the Principal -see attached Report of the Superintendent -see attached Extra-Curricular Report -see attached Non Action Items -see attached Items from Board Members Chad Hesterberg said the communication went well with the sickness going around school; he wanted to know if there was anything else to report. Mr. Grimsley said we had taken care of it in all the emails sent out and that we had worked closely with public health and CDC guidelines. Chad also asked about the bus issues. Mr. Grimsley said a couple incidents have been addressed and things are better. Chad asked about bullying behavior and Mr. Grimsley said he has addressed a couple issues by calling the parents.

Approve Resignation *IT WAS MOVED by Member Hedrick and seconded by Member Hesterberg of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to approve the resignation of school board secretary, Angela Crawford. Action Requested Election of Board Secretary *IT WAS MOVED by Member Hedrick and seconded by Vice-President Lomax of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to nominate and approve Neil Baker as Secretary of the Board. AYE: Hedrick, Hesterberg, Lomax, Schluter ABSTAIN: Baker Authorize Superintendent to Prepare Budget *IT WAS MOVED by Member Hesterberg and seconded by Member Hedrick of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to authorize the Superintendent to prepare the fiscal year 2019 budget. Approve Seniority List *IT WAS MOVED by Vice-President Lomax and seconded by Member Hedrick of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to approve the seniority list for 2018-2019 year as presented. Approve Resignation *IT WAS MOVED by Secretary Baker and seconded by Vice-President Lomax of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to approve the resignation of Boys Basketball Coach, Mitch Pruemer.
Approve Resignation *IT WAS MOVED by Secretary Baker and seconded by Member Hedrick of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to approve the resignation of Girls Volleyball Coach, Kelly Beach, effective after completion of the 2017-18 volleyball schedules. Approve Student Teacher *IT WAS MOVED by Member Hesterberg and seconded by Member Hedrick of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to approve the student teacher for speech language under supervision of Ashley Breeden, Jennifer Dahman. Approve Hiring Part-Time Bus Driver *IT WAS MOVED by Vice-President Lomax and seconded by Member Hedrick of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to approve hiring Gary Duden as a part-time bus driver. Move to Executive Session *IT WAS MOVED by Vice-President Lomax and seconded by Secretary Baker of the Board of Education of Gifford Community Consolidated School District #188 to move into executive session to discuss personnel issues..
