We have had a great start to the fall. The ALR s Cobe s Kickin Cancer Ride was a big success. The ALR raised enough money to pay for Cobe s eye. That was a tremendous burden eased for Cobe s family. The scholarship golf outing was another great success. We raised $6,000 for the scholarship fund. Thank you to the committees and volunteers who made both of these events successful. Our Post was given a Certificate of Appreciation from the Indiana Department of Reserve Officers Association. Thank you to Craig, Mary and the staff for the great job of taking care of our guests. Veteran s Day is quickly approaching and we are receiving lots of requests for Honor Guard support from the community. Honor Guard detail is the most visible demonstration of our support for the community, so we hate to turn them down. We are always accepting volunteers to fill the ranks. Contact Bob Beck if you are interested. Also, take advantage of the many offers of gratitude that will be forthcoming. The support from the community is always appreciated. Following up on a previous topic, our webpage will be getting a few minor tweaks. There will be a calendar button on the homepage to allow quick access to the Post calendar events. There will also be links to our social media pages. As we start posting content we need you to like and share our Posts. Please share with your non-legion friends that we are open to the public on Saturdays and most Fridays. At the October meeting we voted to change the Friday night game from Queen of Hearts to Treasure Hunt, due to lack of support for two games. Unfortunately, the Queen of Hearts was hit before we could communicate the change. Queen of Hearts was capped at a $5000 prize and for Legion members only. Treasure Hunt is open to the public and is uncapped. We are expecting larger jackpots and increased business on Friday nights. We have several activities planned for the upcoming holiday season so stay tuned for details. I wish everyone a peaceful and relaxing holiday season. Andy Carson, November - Decemeber 2017

PAGE 2 AMERICAN LEGION POST 155 NEWSLETTER 852 W MAIN Welcome to Fall! I want to thank everyone who attended our 1 st Prime Rib Dinner and to the volunteers who helped with the prep, serving and clean up. We had many positive comments about the dinner and are looking forward to having another one in the future. We were able to donate $500 to the Indy Vet House for their needs thanks to the support we received. Our garage sale did not have the turn out we would have liked to received. Thank you to all who participated and all the efforts of our volunteers who put it on. The Early Bird Breakfast will be on November 11 th. Dues must be paid by October 31 st in order to receive a free breakfast. The HVAF Christmas Breakfast will be on December 2 nd. Please have any cookies or candy to the Post on November 30 th. We will do duffle bags and cookies for the homeless veterans. The Auxiliary Christmas Party pitch-in will be December 11 th. Please bring a dish to share and a $10 gift to exchange if you wish to participate. The Children s Christmas Party will be December 16 th from 1-3 pm. The next Auxiliary meeting will be November 13 th and the December meeting is the pitch-in on December 11 th. Please pray for our military and veterans. Karen Todd, President THANK YOU MEMBERS OF THE LADIES AUXILIARY!! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the ladies who have returned my many voicemail messages regarding donating a dessert for the SAL Dinners. Being courteous and retuning calls makes my job so much easier to get an accurate count so that we have the opportunity to increase our coffers for the benefit of our deserving Veterans. If I have left you a voicemail and you would prefer not to have future calls, it is ok to call me back and let me know. Your next opportunity to donate a dessert is November 4, 2017. If you would like to help in this regard, you do not have to wait for me to call you. You can call me. Thanks again for all your efforts to make our dessert table a very popular addition to the SAL Dinners. Kathy Bolander, 2nd Vice President H: 317-846-0862 or C: 317-670-1791

852 W MAIN AMERICAN LEGION POST 155 NEWSLETTER HVAF Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation PAGE 3 Our September HVAF Food Drive was only mildly successful. Our biggest contributors were our friends at RoseWalk. We received many bags of canned goods from them. Thank you, Kathy Allen for making the deliveries. I must say, we were a little disappointed in the lack of support we got from our Post members. Since the contributions were low we are asking that you bring a canned good item with you if you are attending the Early Bird Breakfast on November 11. Thank you to those who did contribute. We truly appreciate your support. The big Holiday Breakfast in December plans are well on their way. Along with a huge breakfast menu, thanks to your donations throughout the year, we are again able to fill duffle bags full of much needed personal items, hats, gloves, snacks and many other useful things. We are also making the homemade cookies/candy boxes for them again. If you care to donate home-made cookies/candy (a huge hit), we will be collecting them on November 30. We thank you in advance for your continued support. Our Veterans and the Auxiliary truly appreciate your help. Judy Holmes American Legion Post #155 HVAF Committee Chairman (317) 769-5370 (317)846-0001 AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS The fire is out on the ALR summer cookouts until next year. Our last cookout we served over 70 dinners. Thank you to everyone who helped and supported our cookouts. These funds help us to help Veteran s and Veteran families. Our Cobe Kickin Cancer ride raised enough funds to take care of one of Cobe s large medical bills. We presented Cobe with an honorary Rider Doo Rag! We will be having an End of Season ride on October 28 with KSU at Post at 10:00. We will be riding to Brown County area with rain date October 29. Hopefully, weather will cooperate! Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30. We hope to see you there. Charlie Holmes, ALR Director

PAGE 6 NEWS LETTER TITLE 852 W MAIN Paid Advertisement Remember Robin Williams in the movie GOOD MORNING VIET NAM! I was in college while most of my male classmates were in Viet Nam. We are also the oldest of the Baby Boomers and just about to take over as being the largest population in the country. Many have their homes paid for but their equity is dead. It just sits there and does nothing for the homeowner. I read an article that said we baby boomers have $6.75 trillion dollars in dead equity. I used to teach school. Now I teach my own generation (age 62 and over) how they can have a more peaceful life and feel more secure by using the HECM program/reverse mortgage to put that equity to work. Ask questions. Be open to getting information. Believe me, it is all good or I would not be spending my time trying to reach out to senior citizens. If your home is paid for, we can set you up with a line of credit that grows just under 6% TAX FREE (sounds too good to be true but IT IS TRUE). You always have access to it. If your home is at least half paid for, we can get rid of your mortgage payment which frees up extra money each month. Many many options. Get the facts. And then tell other senior citizens what this is all about.
