Single District 10 Cabinet Meeting Official Minutes April 30, 2004 Held at Munising Credit Union in Munising, MI Meeting called to order at 2:08pm by D.G. Joe Potvin. P.D.G. Jack Holzworth was appointed tail twister for this session. Pledge and Invocation - The pledge of allegiance to the American Flag was led by Bruce LaBelle and the invocation was delivered by VDG Harold Schermer. Introductions - I.D. Dave Roberts introduced. Roll Call - Roll call was taken per sign in sheet. Members present: DG Joe Potvin, VDG Harold Schermer, Treasurer Bruce LaBelle, Secretary Tom Lanaville, I.D. Dave Roberts PID s; John Walker, Dennis Cobler, PDG s; Bruce Andrews, Knut Strom, Larry Klaus, Earl Chaltry, Jim Decremer, Bill Whippen, Jack Holzworth, Jim Olson, Rose Olson, Wally Hanford, Jenny Ware, Wallen Godlewski, Sara Doubledee, Loyst Trombley, Ed Vinoski, George Kelly, Dave Hallgren, Robert St. Peter, Robert Atkins, R. Approval of Minutes - Motion by PDG Jim Decremer/PDG Larry Klaus and unanimously approved. Financial Report - Lion Bruce LaBelle presented a brief Financial Report and the complete report along with budget will be given at the business meeting on Saturday. Zone Report: Wally Hanford - No report. Dick Johnson - Oral report given with only 3 out of 7 clubs attending the Zone meeting. Ruth Snyder - Oral report given with 3 out 4 clubs attending and was a good group. Bob St. Peter - Oral report given with next meeting being May 20 th. Committee Reports All State Band - PDG Jenny Ware gave oral report and written report. All-State Band getting ready for Detroit-Windsor Convention. There are 5 students from U.P. Bay Cliff - Lion Tracee Charbonneau gave oral and written report on the major project of renovating all building and grounds for year round use at Bay Cliff. Constitution & Bylaws - PDG Bill Whippen commented on amendments being brought to the floor of the business session on Saturday. 1

Diabetes Outreach - PDG Rose Olson gave oral report. Marvin Shimp commented on the financial support given for the Diabetes Camp coming up this summer. SD-10 Convention - PDG Bruce Andrews gave oral report along with PDG Bill Whippen on the 2004 Convention is in Munising. SD-10 Magazine - PDG Jack Holzworth gave oral report on the 11 th year of the magazine with positive balance in the fund and announced that Lion Larry Belanger would be the new Chair. Also thanked Charlie Lundmark, Bruce LaBelle, Larry Belanger, and Mike Kobasic for all the help over the years. Introduction - Introduction was made for PID John Walker and Wife Karen. Extension - PDG George Kelly on the fall of the Ontonagon club and commented on the formation of a new Female Club in Bark River Area. VDG Harold Schermer commented that there are 18 that have signed cards. Also there are some Females in the Rock area interested in forming a Club. Hearing and Speech - PDG Bob St. Peter gave oral and written report on restricted fund and wants to meet after cabinet meeting with DG, VDG, Treasurer, Secretary. Items are purchase for area ISD program for sight impaired students. Commented made on camper turned into testing unit for children that toured the UP. Information Technology - PDG Bob Atkins commented that Lion Chuck is in Indianapolis working, but will inform the appropriate people if there is a change. International convention - PDG Loyst Trombley will give report on floor of Business session. LCIF - PDG Earl Chaltry gave oral report with 10 out of 63 clubs donated for total of $1,675.00 with 2 Lioness Clubs for $50.00. DG commented that LCIF is in his presentation at every Club. Leader Dog - PDG Bob St. Peter turned in PDG Richard Brown s written report. Leadership Development - PDG Jim Decremer will give report on floor at business session. Liberty Day - PDG Ed Vinoski will give report on floor at business session. Library for the Blind - Lion Clara Kutchie gave oral report with only 3 clubs donated. She would like to see 100% of clubs donating. Lions of Michigan Service Foundation - Mike Kobasic reported on Mint sales going good. Reported on raffle even with tickets being $10.00 they are $10,000.00 ahead. Grants are given out for this year. Lion Bill Munsell commented on raffle also, with donation coming in very slow. The organization is celebrating 20 years of service this year. 2

Long Range Planning - PDG Larry Klaus will give report on floor at business session. Membership Development - PDG Knut Strom gave oral report. Thank all clubs that have had membership drives. He commented on the waiver for women and spouses to join LCI. Has an orientation program for new members if anyone wants to use it. Comments made on the members that will be transferring to other clubs from the few club quitting. Michigan Eye Bank - Questions asked on where to send donation to? Elections and Nominations - Lion Duke Snyder reported that there will be official ballots to vote at the business session. Northwood s Airlifeline - PDG George Kelly gave oral report. Commented on the International Convention in Detroit with the Union at the Convention Hall and there will be no booth NWALL at convention. Public Relations - PDG Rose Olson gave oral report and asked that Club events be publicized in local newspapers. Retention - PDG Jim Olson gave oral report on retaining members in your club. Club should look at their signs going into their towns and replace them if needed. Sports - PDG Knut Strom commented on annual Bowling Tournament on April 17 th with 9 teams in attendance. He is looking for other clubs to hold the annual event. Peace Poster - Joe Baczkowski gave oral report. Winner was selected from Vulcan Area and next year theme will be Give peace a chance. Plaque will be given at the Awards Lunch on Saturday. SD-10 Scholarship - Lion Rose Strom gave oral report for PDG Dwight Seger. Applications are being turned in very slowly. The Scholarship committee is still continuing to collect on the loans. Teaching Family Homes - Lion Mike Smith gave oral report on building project on the new grounds for T.F.H. 32 student in residential, 34 in foster care, and 28 families in counseling. A fundraiser is being planned at Red Fox Run for a Golf outing on June 12 th. Also the Bike Tour Aug 1 st to the 5 th is still being planned. Trading Pins - PDG Wally Hanford gave oral report on District pins and with the help of DG 1393 have been sold to date. White Cane - Lion Ruth Snyder gave report for Shirley and will have packets for all clubs. year. Youth Exchange - Lion Gary Klop has resigned, but DG Joe Potvin has volunteered for next 3

Youth Outreach - PDG Dave Hallgren gave oral report with letters sent out early in year to all clubs. Omega House - Lion Lois Berg gave report on pledge of $25,000.00 for the grant. Have collected $7,030.00 toward the $25,000.00 goal and would like to apply for the grant in Aug. Welcome Home - PDG Wallen Godlewski gave oral and written report for Calvin Deloria. 30 clubs with a total of $7,310.97 donated from SD-10 which is up for this year. Tail twister collected $36.00 and with $50.00 from 2 other Cabinet meetings a total of $86.00 being donated to Omega House. Old Business M.E.R.L - VDG Harold Schermer will give report on floor at business session North American International Initiative - PID John Walker gave comments on program for Healthy Clubs. This program uses a tool box to help clubs that are in trouble. There are 9 clubs in SD-10 that have been identified, Chatham, Chippewa, Gulliver, Kinross, Mackinac Island, Menominee, Newberry, Ottawa, and Pickford Tone. Photo Screener - PDG Jenny Ware handed out information on project, which is Core 4 grant, which helps children 5 and under to identify problems with eye sight. Some of the problems can be corrected if caught early enough. Lisa Tann is State project coordinator. Motion by PDG Sara Doubledee/PDG Larry Klaus and unanimously approved to move project to the House of Delegates for a vote to adopt this project for the District. Auction at Mix n Meet - PDG George Kelly will have short auction with proceeds going to Northwood s Airlifeline. New Business Introduction of PID Dennis Cobler. Asked for resolution of support for 2 nd International Vice President for 2006. Introduced PDG R.G. Barum and PID John Walker as campaign chairmen and Ed Weesies as Secretary and Richard Foust as Treasurer of the election committee. A 50/50 Raffle ticket will be used to raise money for the campaign instead of assessing the members of the state. Motion by PDG Bill Whippen/PDG Jim Decremer and unanimously approved to move for endorsement to the House of Delegates for a vote for resolution of support of Dennis Cobler for 2 nd International Vice President. DG Joe Potvin asked that all members support VDG Harold Schermer with no surprises. MeadWestvaco has donated money to purchase Oak seedlings for the Necrology on Sunday and all Cabinet Chairpersons; also $300.00 has been donated to Omega house on behalf of the Cabinet Chairpersons. Thank you given by DG Joe Potvin to all Cabinet Chairs for all their support. Remarks were given by ID Dave Roberts. The power of the Cactus? All waivers will end July 1 st 2004. D.G. can use Zone meetings to visit Clubs. All clubs need to work on new members. International Director Dave Roberts was presented with a T-shirt representing the Watersmeet Nimrods. 4

PDG Bob Atkins commented on support of PID Dennis Cobler. Next Meeting at Rapid River and date will be confirmed at a later date. Business meeting will start at 8:30am on Saturday not 9:00am Marquette Lions will celebrate their 85 th anniversary on Oct 2 nd with PID John Walker the key note speaker. Payment of Bills - Motion by PDG Wally Hanford/PDG Jim Decremer and unanimously carried to pay the bills. Meeting adjourned at 4:14pm 5
