Franklin D. Roosevelt Papers Pertaining to the Campaign of 1924 Accession Numbers: Ms 41-64, Ms 68-5 The papers were presented to the Library in November of 1940 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Literary property rights have been donated to the United States Government. Quantity: 16 linear feet (approximately 32,000 pages) Restrictions: None Related Material: Franklin D. In April 1924, the Committee for the Nomination of Alfred E. Smith for President was formed with Franklin D. Roosevelt as chairman. The Committee functioned until the Democratic Convention, which nominated John W. Davis, in July 1924. The papers consist of incoming and outgoing correspondence, memoranda, reports, financial papers, printed matter, a campaign file of Democratic leaders, and newspaper clippings. The papers are arranged in four series as follows: Committee File - Boxes 1-7. Correspondence arranged alphabetically by State, with a separate file for New York City which is arranged alphabetically by surname of correspondent. Much of this correspondence is with Democratic Party and Committee officials and workers. Democratic Convention File - Boxes 7-8. Correspondence with Party and Committee workers concerning the Democratic National Convention. Arranged alphabetically by State. General Correspondence File - Boxes 8-17. Correspondence with the general public and a small subject file which is arranged alphabetically. Printed and Processed Material - Boxes 17-29. Campaign literature, reports, financial material, lists of State delegates to the Convention, scrapbooks, and a card index of Democratic Party leaders arranged alphabetically by State.
