In cooperation with Professor Rey Koslowski, I am in charge of implementing the project titled The International Context of Immigration Reform: US, Mexico and Beyond funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. This project entails researching and analyzing the politics of changing immigration policies and the implementation of reforms in the US and Mexico from a comparative and international perspective. The project examines the role that other countries examples may play in political and policymaking processes as well as the interaction effects of reform movements in one country on the other. In charge of organizing and leading the necessary policymaker/academic workshops in Mexico and in Washington, DC. 2011-2112 Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Foundation of the State University of New York at Albany 2007-2010 This position started as Research Project Assistant at the Foundation s Legislative Development Center in 2007, receiving the Postdoctoral Fellowship in September 2009. This position has entailed surveying existing scholarly research on international 1
cooperation on migration; to this effect, research migration related issues such as global governance, human trafficking and nationality and citizenship policies. Assisting Professor Koslowski with the initial gathering of data for a proposed online inventory of nationality laws. Assisting with the organizational development of a workshop and a conference on migration issues held in Washington D.C. in November 2008 and New York City in April of 2009. Both events were funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. In charge of the hiring process and supervision of four graduate students working towards the growth and enhancement of the aforementioned online inventory. Interviews are often conducted in Spanish. Review and submit data gathered and when necessary make appropriate recommendations on the client s condition. Track clients for period of 15 months. Interview individuals that are part of the Evaluate Safety Counts HIV/Hepatitis prevention program to reduce infection and transmission. Translate interviews and other relevant materials from English to Spanish. Co-Chair 2006-2007 Civil Rights for Committee Immigrants, Regional Initiative Supporting Empowerment (ARISE), Albany, New York Led meetings with legislative staff presenting the committee s interests and building relationships to advance the policy of immigration reform. Promoted the importance of the immigrant community to the capital district region. Served as office representative on other state committees such as the NYS Mainstream Alliance. Compiled statewide directory for farm workers and guide for farmers on state and 4
