DATES JAN. 25 (W) E-69 JAN. 25 (W) E-69 JAN. 30 (M) E-64 GOVERNOR S PROCLAMATION On this date the Governor issued the proclamation calling the special election. (E. C. 10700, 10703 and Govt. Code 1773) PETITION FORMS FOR SIGNATURES IN LIEU OF FILING FEE Petition forms may be obtained to secure signatures in lieu of all or a portion of the filing fee. Signatures submitted on in-lieu filing fee petitions may also be applied to the signature requirements on nomination documents. Supplemental petitions must be filed prior to the close of the nomination period. (E. C. 8061 and 8106) JAN. 25 (W) E-69 FEB. 9 (Th) E-54 NOMINATION PERIOD First and last day to circulate and leave nomination documents for examination and certification. Candidate must also file a Declaration of Candidacy and Ballot Designation worksheet during this period. (E. C. 8028, 8040, 8041, 8062 and 10704 and 13107.3) NOTE: Fax not acceptable. Filing fees shall be paid at the time the candidate obtains nomination forms from the county elections official. (E. C. 8105 and 8106(b)(3)) CANDIDATE STATEMENTS During this period, candidates for congressional office may submit a statement for inclusion in the sample ballot. The statement shall not exceed 250 words and the estimated fee must be submitted by this date. (E. C. 13307.5) -1-

Candidates will be notified within 4 calendar days of filing the petition of any deficiency. Candidate may then, prior to the close of the nomination period, submit a supplemental petition or pay the pro rata portion of the filing fee to make up the deficiency. (E. C. 8061, 8105 and 8106) WRITE-IN CANDIDATE PERIOD A name written on a ballot will not be counted unless the person has filed a declaration of candidacy during this period stating that he or she is a write-in candidate for the election. (E. C. 8600 and 8601) NOMINATION DOCUMENTS TO SECRETARY OF STATE Last day to file nomination documents with Secretary of State. (E.C. 10704) POLITICAL PARTY ENDORSEMENT Last day for any qualified political party to submit to the county elections official a list of all candidates for voter-nominated office who have been endorsed by the party. The county elections official shall print any such list that is timely received from the state party chairperson in the sample ballot. PUBLIC EXAMINATION PERIOD FOR CANDIDATE STATEMENTS/CANDIDATE NAMES AND BALLOT DESIGNATIONS During this period, candidate statements, candidate names, and ballot designations shall be open for public examination. A fee may be charged to any person obtaining a copy of the material. Any person may challenge the aforementioned candidate information by filing a petition for writ of mandate no later than February 15. (E. C. 13313 and 13314) -2-

FEB. 10 (F) E-53 RANDOMIZED ALPHABET DRAWING BY SECRETARY OF STATE The Secretary of State shall hold a public drawing to determine the order of candidate names on the ballot by randomly drawing each letter of the alphabet. (E. (E. C. 8120) TRANSLITERATION REVIEW PERIOD First and last day candidates may review transliteration of their names. Requests for changes must be submitted to the county elections official no later then the last day of the review period. (E. C. 2184) MAILING OF SAMPLE BALLOTS A sample ballot booklet shall be mailed to each voter in the district during this period. (E. C. 13300,13303(b) and 13304) MAILING OF VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS First day the elections official delivers Vote By Mail ballots in compliance with E.C. 3001. (E.C. 3010 and 3206) POLLWORKER AND POLLING PLACE APPOINTMENTS AND DESIGNATIONS Last day to appoint pollworkers and designate polling places. A notice of appointment shall be mailed to each pollworker. (E. C. 12286, 12307 and 12319) ** March 25 (Saturday) Office will be closed. -3-

MAR. 6 (M) E-29 MAR. 28 (Tu) E-7 VOTE BY MAIL VOTERS FIRST AND LAST DAY TO APPLY Applications may be filed between these dates (both dates inclusive). Applications received prior to the 29th day preceding the election will be kept and processed during this period. (E. C. 3001, 3102(e) and 10704(c)) MAR. 20 (M) E-15 CLOSE OF REGISTRATION Last day to register or transfer to vote in the election. (E. C. 2102 and 2107) PROCESSING OF VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS The processing of vote by mail ballots may commence on the 10 th business day before the election, but the results of the tally shall not be released until after the polls close. (E. C. 15101(b)) MAR. 21 (Tu) E-14 WRITE-IN CANDIDATE DECLARATION DEADLINE Last day for a candidate to file a declaration of candidacy stating that he or she is a write-in candidate for the election. (E. C. 8600 and 8601) BILINGUAL PRECINCT OFFICERS LIST Last day to prepare list of appointed bilingual precinct officers. (E. C. 12303(d)) MAR. 25** (Sa) E-10** TALLY CENTER LOCATION PUBLICATION On or before this date a notice specifying the public place to be used as the tally center location for counting the ballots shall be published once in a newspaper of general circulation within the jurisdiction. (E. C. 12109 and Govt. 6061) **March 25 (Saturday) Office will be closed.. -4-

MAR. 28 (Tu) E-7 POLLING PLACES PUBLICATION Not later than this date, a list of polling places for each precinct shall be published once in a newspaper of general circulation within the district. (E. C. 12105, 12106 and Govt. Code 6061) MAR. 29 (W) E-6 APR. 4 (Tu) 8:00 P.M. ELECTION DAY APR. 4 (Tu) 8:00 P.M. ELECTION DAY COMPUTER PROGRAM TO SECRETARY OF STATE Last day to send copy of computer vote counting program and Certificate of Logic and Accuracy Test to Secretary of State. (E. C. 15001) EMERGENCY VOTE BY MAIL VOTING Between these dates, any voter may apply for a Vote By Mail ballot if conditions require his or her absence from the precinct on election day. The voter may designate an authorized representative to pick up and return the ballot. (E. C. 3021 and 3110) ELECTION DAY Polls open 7:00 a.m. and close 8:00 p.m. (E. C. 14212) NOTE: If at the hour of closing, there are any other qualified voters in the polling place or in line at the door, who have not been able to vote since appearing, the polls shall be kept open a sufficient amount of time to enable them to vote. (E. C. 14401) VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS RETURNED 8:00 P.M. Last day for Vote By Mail ballots to be received or turned in personally by the voter at any polling place in the jurisdiction. An authorized representative may return the voted ballot under specified conditions. (E. C. 3017 and 3021) Any vote by mail ballot cast under this division shall be timely cast if it is received by the voter s elections official via the United States Postal Service or a bona fide private mail delivery company no later than three days after election day in addition to the provisions set forth in E. C. 3020, Sections 1 and 2. (E. C. 3020(b) Section 1 and 2) -5-

APR. 5 (W) E+1 APR. 13 (Th) E+9 OFFICIAL CANVASS During this period, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk is tentatively scheduled to complete the official canvass. NOTE: On April 13, 2017 the Registrar- Recorder/County Clerk is scheduled to certify the election results to the SOS. On April 18, 2017, the Board of Supervisors is tentatively scheduled to declare the election results official. APR. 7 (F) E+3 MAILED VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS LAST DAY TO BE COUNTED Any vote-by-mail ballot cast shall be deemed timely if it is received by the elections official via the United States Postal Service or a bona fide private mail delivery company no later than three days after Election Day and either of the following is satisfied: 1. The ballot is postmarked on or before Election Day, or, 2. If the ballot has no postmark, a postmark with no date, or an illegible postmark, the vote-bymail ballot identification envelope is date stamped by the election official upon receipt of the vote-bymail ballot from the United States Postal Service or a bona fide private mail delivery company, and is signed and dated pursuant to Section 3011 on or before Election Day. (E. C. 3017 and 3020) If any candidate receives a majority of all votes cast at the special primary election, he or she shall be declared elected and the special general election shall not be held. (E.C. 10705) If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast at the special primary election, the names of the top two vote getters shall be placed on the special general election ballot.
