Section 3: Supplemental Outreach Activities -6-1-13 to 5-31-14 1. Community speaking engagements regarding career opportunities in broadcasting General outreach efforts are bolstered by public speaking engagements by staff which includes, but is not limited to schools, civic and church organizations and area colleges. This year s engagements include: In addition our weather department did training for individuals for weathercaster wannabee segments; 1 training on each of the following dates: July 3; July 15 ; September 3; September 29; October 29; November 6; November 24; December 16; January 12; March 27; April 13 Our Chief Meteorologist hosted job shadowing for a meteorology student from Virginia Tech 1X per week since March 4 th. Also, our Chief Meteorologist had a student from Delmar High School shadow him on April 24 th. One of our meteorologists went to Northwestern Elementary in Mardella Springs to give a weather presentation on May 23 rd. On September 11 th one of our anchors spoke to the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club about her career in broadcasting. On October 16 th one of our anchors spoke at Prince Street Elementary to media students. On October 22 nd one of our meteorologists did a weather presentation at North Salisbury Elementary School. On October 24 th 2 of our anchors served on a Media Panel at Salisbury University topic- Challenge of the Media. On November 14 th one of our anchors visited Holly Grove Christian School in Westover, MD for a discussion on Journalism. On March 11 th one of our anchors participated in a panel discussion on successful African American women by Delta Gems at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. On April 3 rd one of our anchors emceed the Libraries Light of Literacy event On April 23 rd one of our anchors spoke at University of Maryland Eastern Shore during the Administrative Assistant Day program. On May 1 st one of our anchors spoke at the 34 th Annual Herman Franklin Paraprofessional Program Appreciation Banquet. On May 2 nd one of our reporters spoke to students at Fruitland Intermediate School about broadcasting careers. Students from a class at Salisbury University came to our station to observe our broadcast and meet with our anchors. They observed on the following dates and specific newscast: October 30 noon November 7 6 PM November 8 noon November 13 6 PM November 14 6 PM November 25 6 PM April 3 6 PM April 24-25-28-29 noon May 1-2-6 noon 9

2. Station Tours The station provided tours of the studio. These groups had the opportunity to watch the noon newscast live and meet with the anchor and meteorologist as part of their tour. The following came to the station this year: October 23 Prince Street Elementary On March 24 a group of 12 cub scouts came to the station and took a tour of the following departments- Master control, studio, news room, and weather center. (they were given the opportunity to work with our Chief Meteorologist giving them experience with our green screen.) On May 15 media broadcasting students from Sussex Tech High School came to the station for a tour. 3. Internship Program The station provides year round news, weather, and production internship programs for college students. These programs are designed to assist students interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting. In this reporting year, we accepted students from Towson University, University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, and University of Maryland, College Park. Our internships are for credit only. Summer 2013 Spring 2014 2 students (news) 1 student (news) 4. Job Fairs We participated in various job fairs during this reporting year. Each was attended by station personnel who have substantial responsibilities in making hiring decisions. Job fairs included: Salisbury University September 25, 2013 attended by News Director Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Job Fair at Centre at Salisbury October 23, 2013 attended by General Manager and Sales Manager Delaware State University October 24, 2013 attended by News Director and Production Manager Salisbury University February 26, 2014 attended by News Director and Digital Media Director University of Maryland Eastern Shore February 27, 2014 attended by General Manager and Local Sales Manager Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences March 29, 2014 attended by Sales Manager and Local Sales Manager 10

Training regarding equal employment opportunities and discrimination prevention The station provides on-going training to all station personnel, including those at management level, designed to ensure equal employment opportunities and to prevent discrimination and harassment. The video is titled Sexual Harassment: A Commonsense Approach. All employees are required to view this video. Dates and times offered this reporting year are: June 12, 2013 June 24, 2013 June 26, 2013 September 25, 2013 September 30, 2013 March 19, 2014 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM 3 PM 2 PM 9 AM and 2:30 PM 3:30 PM 9 AM and 2 PM It Takes All Kinds Diversity in the Workplace. The employees are required to view this video that breaks down the workplace stereotypes and teaches the value of a diverse staff. The dates and times for this are: June 12, 2013 June 13, 2013 June 24, 2013 June 26, 2013 September 25, 2013 September 26, 2013 September 30, 2013 March 19, 2014. 6. The training programs are designed to enable station personnel to acquire skills that could qualify them for higher level positions.
