August 22, 2016 Travis Middle School Students Lead Pledges Ten students from Travis Middle School led the pledges to the American and Texas flags at the August 22 board meeting. A special thanks to students Tori Arellano, Jessica Garcia, Rachel Gates, Trey Hardin, Zakk Oliver, Davion Daily, Brandon Wheeler, Ramiro Cardenas, Kaneisha Vonner and Kayla Webster. s FCCLA Students Recognized for Participation in National Competition Fourteen Irving ISD students competed at the national FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) National Leadership Conference in San Diego, Calif., this summer. MacArthur High School hospitality students Maria Limon, Mikayla Joiner and Jennifer Rocha earned gold medals.
Irving High School hospitality student Steve Hidalgo earned a silver medal. Singley Academy culinary and hospitality students Abelardo Villegas, Stephanie Guerrero, Jocelin Garcia, Celeste Pozo, Janie Lopez, Victoria Martinez, Hope Cachay, Emily Alvarado and Adrianna Kalakone won gold medals, and Jeremiah Turner earned a silver medal.

HOSA Students Recognized for Participation in National Competition Singley Academy students Sreya Chamathil and Shamima Mst finished in the top 10 in the world at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., this summer. State Champion Academic Teams Recognized Two MacArthur High School UIL academic teams won state championships this spring current events and social studies.
The Current Events team completed a perfect, undefeated season with a second consecutive state championship. In addition, the team set a new high score at the state meet. Members of the state champion currents events teams are Iris Martinez (not pictured), Nikhil Arora, Obed de la Cruz and Sam Dennehy. The team is coached by Chad Smith. The Social Studies team won a third state title. Team members are senior Sarah Huerta and juniors Miles Brownlee, Daniel Earley and Charles Salazar. They are coached by Brad Woods. Public Meeting to Review and Discuss the 2016-2017 Budget and Proposed Tax Rate Gary Micinski, Irving ISD chief financial officer, led a discussion about the 2016-2017 budget and proposed tax rate. He shared details about the district s general operating fund, revenues,
