This year, in conjunction with its 33 rd Annual Banquet (the Banquet ), the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania ( APABA-PA ) will be hosting the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association ( NAPABA ) Northeast Regional Conference (the Conference ) during the weekend of September 8-10. NAPABA represents the interests of over 50,000 APA legal professionals and 75 local APA bar associations and promotes justice, equality, and opportunity for APA s. NAPABA engages in legislative and policy advocacy, promotes APA political leadership and political appointments, and builds coalitions within the legal profession and the community at large. APABA-PA is the Pennsylvania affiliate of NAPABA, which is the national voice for Asian Pacific American ( APA ) legal professionals. THE APABA-PA 33 RD ANNUAL BANQUET APABA-PA's Annual Banquet will be held at the Sheraton University City, 3549 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia on Friday, September 8, starting at 6:00. The Banquet supports the William M. Marutani Fellowship, established in 2003 to honor Judge Marutani s legacy as a civil rights advocate, jurist, and pioneer in the law. Each year, first-year law students who exhibit the same commitment to social justice as Judge Marutani are selected to receive this financial award in support of summer employment with a public interest organization or government agency. The Banquet is the most prominent annual social event for APABA-PA, drawing close to 300 attorneys, judges, and law students from the Philadelphia region and beyond. APABA will also be holding its signature Silent Auction during the Banquet in support of the Marutani Fellowship. Three-time Emmy Award winning reporter and entrepreneur Cynthia Gouw will serve as our mistress of ceremonies. The keynote speaker and awardees will be announced at a later date. 3

THE NAPABA NORTHEAST REGIONAL CONFERENCE The theme of the Conference this year is Diversity in the Face of Adversity. On Saturday, September 9, the Conference will begin with breakfast, a full program of Continuing Legal Education Panels (CLEs) and lunch at Drexel University s Thomas R. Kline School of Law, 3320 Market Street in Philadelphia, conveniently located near the Sheraton University City Hotel and Amtrak s 30 th Street Station. There will be up to 15 CLE panels featuring distinguished speakers both local and hailing from our NAPABA affiliates across the Northeast region, who will share their expertise on a range of topics which touch upon the theme. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn 6 CLE credits (including 2 ethics credits) and network and meet with APA legal professionals throughout the region, and various NAPABA Committees during a complimentary breakfast and lunch. That evening, Conference attendees can unwind at the cocktail reception and then attend one of several dinners the Conference Committee is organizing, including an In- House Counsel Dinner. On Sunday, September 10, Conference attendees can attend various social events planned by the Conference Committee to show off our beautiful city. These activities will include a run up the Rocky Steps and culinary adventures in Chinatown. 4
