REGULAR MEETING February 25, 2013 The Board of Education of Community Unit School District No. 7 Madison County, Edwardsville, Illinois met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary, 59 S. State Rte. 157, Edwardsville, IL 62025 on February 25, 2013. President Greg Roosevelt presided over the meeting. The following members answered roll call: Bob Perica, Jill Bertels, Monica Laurent, Brad Hewitt, Paul Pitts, Dorothy Hummel, and Greg Roosevelt. Also in attendance were: Ed Hightower, Superintendent; Dave Courtney, Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations; Nancy Spina, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel; Lynda Andre, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction; Becky Kolda, Director of Special Education; Bill Miener, Director of Technology; Julie Biggs, Reporter for the Intelligencer; Channel 10 Camera Technician; Craig Bosomworth, Technology; and Diane Walkenbach, Secretary to the Superintendent. Other administrators present were: Dennis Cramsey, Beth Crumbacher, Curt Schumacher, Chad Laughlin, Hillary Stanifer, Jennifer Milburn, Jeff Wallis, Steve Stuart, Ryan Ketchum, Susan Converse, Tara Wells, Erin Foley, Vince Schlueter, Martha Richey, Beth Renth, Joe McNamara, Steve Morrison, and Mary Miller. Welcome to Visitors President Greg Roosevelt welcomed staff and visitors. Minutes approved: Jill Bertels moved for approval of the minutes from the regular meeting held on February 11, 2013 and Brad Hewitt seconded the motion. Ayes Bertels, Hewitt, Perica, Laurent, Pitts, Hummel, Roosevelt Carried 7-0 Board Committees, Special Committees Brad Hewitt, Personnel Committee Chair, reported that the Personnel Committee met earlier this evening in open session to approve the action items on the agenda which will be presented later to the full board for approval. 1
ACTION CONSIDERATIONS: A.C. 12-59 - Approval of Personnel A motion was made by Brad Hewitt and seconded by Paul Pitts to approve the personnel action items. I. DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Kyle Rehkemper has been subbing as a Program Assistant at Worden Elementary School since February 19, 2013. When he is hired in the same position this date will serve as the official date of employment by District 7 with respect to the above contractual legislative requirements. II. ACTION ITEMS A. It is recommended that the following classified employee s resignation be accepted: 1. Threasa Silvey; 7.5 hour Cafeteria Worker, Edwardsville High School; effective February 5, 2013. B. It is recommended that the following classified candidate be employed: 1. Kyle Rehkemper; 7 hour Program Assistant, Worden Elementary School; Step 2, certified, $10.75 per hour; effective February 26, 2013. C. It is recommended that the following stipend resignation be accepted: 1. Chris Jordan; Assistant Girls Track Coach, Lincoln Middle School; effective February 15, 2013. D. It is recommended that the following person be approved for stipend as listed: 1. Dennis Neese; Assistant Girls Track Coach, Lincoln Middle School; effective for the 2012-2013 season. E. A.C. 12-60 Approval of February Bills A motion was made by Dorothy Hummel and seconded by Bob Perica to approve the February bills in the amount of $961,594.96. Ayes Hummel, Perica, Bertels, Laurent, Hewitt, Pitts, Roosevelt Carried 7-0 Superintendent s Announcements: President Greg Roosevelt and Dr. Hightower gave a PowerPoint presentation on District 7 s Financial Update for 2012-2013 and Projection for 2013-2014. Employee Recognition The Board recognized Matt Maddox, teacher at Columbus Elementary, for receiving the VFW Smart/Maher National Citizenship Education Teacher Award for K-5 grades. Vice Commander Larry Miller of Edwardsville VFW Post 1299 was in attendance to present this award to Mr. Maddox. Matt also has been named the National Teacher of the Year for this Award from over 60,000 submissions nation-wide. He will be honored at the VFW National Convention, July 20-24 in Louisville, KY. In addition to receiving the award, both Matt and Columbus will receive checks for $1,000.00. Nancy Spina, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel, introduced the employees, and Dr. Hightower and Bob Perica recognized the recipients for the February Good Employee award.
