ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Environment is the fountainhead of life, the bedrock of mankind's presence and development. Uncontrolled urbanization, industrialization, deforestation and transportation, as the cousins of economic development, have put tremendous pressure on natural resources. Therefore, there is a pressing need to strike a balance between developmental planning and safeguarding the environment. India is not left untouched by the endemic rise of global environmental concerns. India's formulation of legislation in accordance with International standards targets a better and more balanced environment. The Indian Constitution is amongst the few in the world that contains specific provisions on environmental protection. However, problems pertaining to implementation of policies coupled with indifferent and misdirected politics have hampered the legislative attempts.

There has been a sustained focus on the role played by the judiciary in implementing and devising of measures for pollution control, conservation of forests and wildlife protection. Many of these judicial interventions have been triggered by the persistent incoherence in policy-making as well as the lack of capacity-building amongst the executive agencies. Measures such as Public Interest Litigation have been prominently relied upon to deal with environmental problems. Sadly, in spite of numerous landmark judgments and well established principles, doctrines and international norms, environmental rehabilitation has been scarce. It needs to be noted that the plethora of environmental issues remain reserved amongst a limited class of people and is yet to receive the acknowledgment of the masses. In light of the aforementioned barriers, this Conference is being organised to study the nature and extent of Environmental Law developments through various Statutes, Conventions and Court decisions. The Conference shall be a shared dais for Academicians, Scientists from Pure as well as Social/Applied Sciences, Research Scholars, Administrators, Adjudicators, NGOs and the Students, whereby all the possible domains of the environmental studies will be explored in order to render workable solutions for an efficacious management of the green cover and the ecosystems. Broad Objectives of the National Conference are : Generation of public awareness on matters concerning environmental issues on the global arena. Identification and analysis of recent development in public policies, legislation and international norms governing environmental concerns. Identifying a system that promotes hassle free implementation and execution of established legal provisions. Facilitation of discussions that shall create a platform for invoking informed opinions on diverse issues of environment law. Encouraging study and analysis of diverse environmental aspects in a research oriented direction.

Sub Themes Environmental Laws and Public Policy in India : A Critical Appraisal.
