STATEMENT OF PROBABLE CAUSE Complainant has investigated the facts and circumstances of this offense and believes the following establishes probable cause: On or about April 27, 2017, at approximately 10:44 p.m., Bloomington Police Officers were dispatched to Hampshire Hill Apartments, 6800 West Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington Hennepin County Minnesota on the report of shooting. Upon arriving at that location, officers were greeted by Victim A, dob 4/26/99, who escorted them to Apartment 214. Police immediately observed blood throughout the apartment. Officers observed Victim B, Corey Elder, dob 2/16/98 in the bedroom of the apartment. He was laying lifeless on a bed. Victim B was surrounded by blood, the apparent victim of a gunshot wound to his neck. On April 29, 2017, an autopsy of Victim B was performed at Hennepin County Medical Examiner s Office. The Medical Examiner determined that Victim B died as a result of a single gunshot wound to his neck. The bullet grazed Victim B s jugular vein, shattered his spine and fractured his skull. Victim B also suffered blunt force trauma to his head and face. Victim A stated that she and Victim B were at their apartment on the evening of April 27, 2017 at approximately 10:35 p.m., when there was a knock at the door. When Victim B opened the door, two females burst into the apartment, shouting, You re fucking liars! Victim A identified these females as Bri and Megan. Officers later identified the two women as Co-Defendants BRIANA MARIE MARTINSON, dob 12/15/98, MEGAN CHRISTINE CATER, 3/11/98. Victim A stated Co-Defendants MARTINSON and CATER were regular customers of Victim B who often purchased illegal drugs from him. Police continued to investigate the case by canvassing the apartment building, searching for evidence and taking statements. The investigation revealed that CATER and MARTINSON first arranged with Co- Defendants, later identified as TARRANCE FONTAINE MURPHY, 12/1/96 and MAURICE ANTONIO VERSER, dob 10/2/83, NOAH JOHN PETERSON, dob 8/4/96, and ALEC PRICE STREIT, dob 5/1/97 to burglarize the apartment and steal from the Victims. CATER and MARTINSON wanted to steal drugs. They contacted STREIT and PETERSON for assistance. PETERSON solicited the help of MURPHY. MURPHY recruited VERSER who could provide a gun. MURPHY AND VERSER wanted drugs. STREIT wanted to take back a gaming system and drugs he said Victim B stole from him. The six Co-defendants drove in two cars to the Victims residence. The six Co-defendants all met up in the apartment complex parking lot to discuss the details while sitting in Streit s car just prior to carrying out the crime. They intended to scare the Victims and rough up Victim B. VERSER supplied the gun and made sure it was loaded. All six Co- Defendants planned entry of the Victims apartment with the intent to steal drugs or property. PETERSON and STREIT remained outside waiting in one car. MURPHY and VERSER entered the apartment immediately behind CATER and MARTINSON. Once in the apartment, MURPHY AND VERSER confronted Victim B. MURPHY and VERSER physically assaulted and pistol whipped Victim B.. CATER and MARTINSON immediately confronted Victim A in the bedroom. CATER and MARTINSON yelled and swore at Victim A as they ransacked the apartment searching for drugs. During the confrontation, either VERSER or MURPHY pointed a gun at Victim A s head and told her to remain still. CATER and MARTINSON took Xanax, Gabapentin and cocaine from the bedroom. Victim B continued to resist VERSER and MURPHY. VERSER dragged Victim B into the bedroom. VERSER threw Victim B on the bed next to Victim A. VERSER raised up a black handgun and fired one shot into Victim B s neck. The Co-Defendants then fled the building and drove away. Victim A ran to a neighbor s apartment and asked him to call 911. CATER, MURPHY, VERSER, PETERSON, STREIT and MARTINSON were arrested by police over the 3

next three days. CATER, MURPHY, VERSER, PETERSON AND STREIT all waived Miranda and admitted to participating in the crime. All are presently in custody. The stolen drugs were recovered from CATER S car. Based upon information derived from the Mirandized statements from the suspects, Police recovered a 1917 Colt.45 caliber revolver that was alleged to be used in the homicide. 4
