FACULTY SENATE MOTIONS ACTIONS TAKEN 2006-2007 01-07: That the Faculty Senate affirm the actions taken by the Rules Committee over the Summer 2006, as listed on this agenda, Item D. 02-07: That the Faculty Senate adopt the 2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Academic Calendars, as presented in Sen. Doc. Nos. 04-042A, 05-038A and 06-043. The 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Academic Calendars were approved; the 2009-2010 Academic Calendar was tabled. 03-07: That the Faculty Senate receive the Final Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Student Information System (ACSIS), as presented in Sen. Doc. No. 07-003, and thank the Committee for its excellent work which is now complete. 04-07: That the Faculty Senate approve the Changes to the Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree Program, as presented in Sen. Doc. No. 07-004. SPECIAL MOTION: That the Faculty Senate of UMass Amherst offers its sincere congratulations to Dr. Craig Mello of the UMass Medical School upon receiving the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology for 2006 along with Dr. Andrew Fire of Stanford University for their discoveries related to RNA interference. SPECIAL MOTION OF THE RULES COMMITTEE CONCERNING THE AWARD OF AN HONORARY DEGREE: That the Faculty Senate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst by this vote records its view that the nomination of Andrew Card, Jr. for an honorary degree does not rise to the level of distinction described in Trustee document T93-060 (revised 2/16/05). According to this document, candidates for honorary degrees shall be persons of great accomplishment and high ethical standards who exemplify the ideals of the University of Massachusetts. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst disapproves of the award of an honorary degree to Andrew Card, Jr. 45-07: That the Faculty Senate approve the Policy and Procedures concerning Academic Honesty, as presented in Sen. Doc. No. 07-040A. This motion was seconded and adopted as amended. 46-07: That the Faculty Senate approve the Revision of the Minor in Entomology in the Department of Plant, Soil, and Insect Sciences in the College of Natural Resources and the Environment, as presented in Sen. Doc. No. 07-041. 47-07: That the Faculty Senate approve The Establishment of a Five College Certificate in Buddhist Studies, as presented in Sen. Doc.
