General Membership Meeting Minutes 25 th PATS Annual Meeting June 4, 2005 Lancaster Host & Resort Lancaster, PA Agenda I. Call to Order: by President AJ Duffy III. After the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members of the Society and recognition of those that have served our country, Mr. Duffy introduced outgoing District II Director and PATS Member, Joe Iezzi. He thanked PATS for all that it has done for the district under his guise and was happy that the district had elected another PATS member Jim Thornton who will take over for him later this month in Indianapolis. Mr. Thornton echoed Mr. Iezzi s comment about PATS and that he was excited to lead us to the next level. It should also be noted that District Treasurer Barry McGlumphy is also a PATS member. II. Announcements: President Duffy reminded the membership that the CEU Reporting period ends on December 31 st. Beginning in 2006, the NATA membership will be divided into thirds so that CEU s will be earned on a rotating basis. The BOC has requested to use the web filing of CEU s. It is a convenient and efficient way for you to track your CEU s. Volunteers are needed this summer for the Special Olympics and the Senior Olympics in Pittsburgh. Please consult the website for further information. PATS is pleased to announce the following award winners to be presented later this month in Indianapolis: NATA PR Award winners UPMC Honorable Mention - Public Relations for the Best Grassroots Effort with its 2 nd annual River Run. PATS has won the PR Award for the Greatest Impact for its Bulletin Board Campaign in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
PATS member Ken Rogers has been selected Chair of the National Clinical Athletic Trainers Committee. III. Secretary s Report The General Meeting Notes as posted on the web from the EATA meeting on January 8, 2005 in Boston was moved to be accepted by Joe Iezzi, Downingtown East High School and seconded by Scott Bruce, California University of PA. The motion passed with unanimous voice vote. IV. Treasurer s Report: A.J. Duffy III President Duffy reviewed the financial status of the Society. As discussed in the January meeting, three endowments have been established. The Society continues to remain in sound financial condition. A technical problem did not allow the graphs, at the end of this report, to be viewed by the membership. It has been included for web posting. If you have any questions regarding the finances of the society please feel free to contact AJ Duffy or Rob Roche. V. Selected Committee Reports Nominations and Elections: Mike Ludwikowski Susquehanna Health Care Mr. Ludwikowski held a vote of affirmation for those offices that were unopposed: Southcentral Rep: Northeastern Rep: Secretary: Tanya Miller Elizabethtown College Greg Janik Kings College Michele Kabay Waynesburg College Brandyn Charlton resigned his position as treasurer. In accordance with the by-laws, the Board appointed Rob Roche, Swarthmore College to complete the balance of Mr. Charlton s term. Offices that are up for election in 2006: President Elect is a six-year commitment. Treasurer: It is a two-year position that ends with the filing of the IRS paperwork at the end of the fiscal year with the accountant. Rob Roche may seek reelection for his first full term. Southwestern Representative: Linda Platt may seek a second three year term. Southeastern Representative: Chris Peduzzi is completing his second term and may not seek reelection.
Mr. Ludwikowski asked the members present that we should always have elections with a membership of 2000. If you are interested or would like to nominate an individual for office, please contact him via the website. The following outgoing officers were recognized and presented with plaques of appreciation: Southcentral Representative: Treasurer: Teresa Miller Brandyn Charlton Research: Dr. Neil Curtis West Chester University Dr. Curtis announced that the award for 2005 will be for $2500 and this years winner is Ryan Tierney et al from Temple on: Gender differences in Head- Neck Segment Kinematics & Dynamic Stabilization during Soccer Heading with and without Soccer Headgear. The findings will be presented at the 2006 meeting. Dr. Curtis also invited the members to attend the 2004 recipient s presentation by Keith Gorse from Duquesne University. His presentation was titled: South West Pennsylvania Youth Baseball Health and Safety Study Dr. Curtis also requested that anyone interested in applying for the 2006 award should consult the website for an application. Honors and Awards: Sandy Bush Messiah College Mr. Bush previewed that there are two team physicians that will be honored, and two members that will receive the PATS Service Award at the luncheon. Also, the recipients of the following PATS sponsored scholarships will be announced. Phil Donley Award $2000 Phil Donley Finalist - $ 500 PATS Scholarship: $2000 Southwestern AT Award in conjunction with UPMC $2000 District II - $2000 Please be sure to nominate deserving members and athletic training students for PATS Awards. Hall of Fame: Joe Donolli, Gettysburg College This years PA Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame inductees are Sayers Bud Miller and Cecilia Yost. Please attend the luncheon to honor these two deserving additions to the Hall of Fame. Please be sure to nominate deserving members for this award. Secondary Schools: Larry Cooper Penn-Trafford HS
Wrestling weight certification will be implemented in accordance with the National HS Federation. Assessor training will take place at this meeting and future sessions are being evaluated. Public Relations Teresa Zepka Millersville University The PR Committee has been very busy and is excited about the buttons provided for the conference. The membership is encouraged to wear the buttons at the NATA convention as well as display them at the work place. Nomenclature task force has completed its review. The findings are that Certified Athletic Trainers will remain the proper terminology. The PR Committee is expanding with three new members and would like to include a student from each curriculum program to the committee. If interested please contact me via the website. Convention Mark Keppler Bucknell University Mark would like to thank all that made this convention such a success, especially his committee chairs Scott Bruce, Mandy Horner, and Edward Stier; Yvette Ingram could not make it and Bruce Barnhart filled in admirably for her and thanks to John Hauth, Rennie Sacco and Keith Vanic on the golf side. This years meeting had 397 registrants with 20 exhibitors. There meeting had 15 CEU s. It is not to late to think about next year when PATS returns to the Host June 8 10, 2006. VI. Old Business Career Center President Duffy explained the facts behind the NATA s decision to charge for the career center. He opened the floor for discussion and there was none. Rules Regulations They are still under revision by the MD and DO Boards. We are inching closer to having them approved. Make sure that you have your policy and procedures in place and attend Dr. Meyer s lecture!!!! Please remember to renew your Commonwealth Certification. Members have been levied fines in excess of $500 for failing to do so. VII. New Business There was no new business at this time and Scott Bruce moved for adjournment.
