DECATUR CITY SCHOOLS Decatur, Alabama January 24, 2018 BOARD NOTES... The Decatur City Board of Education met for its monthly meeting Tuesday, January 23rd at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Office. Board members present were Karen Duke, Donnie Lane, Michele King, and Peggy Baggett. Dr. Michael Douglas and Mrs. Melanie Maples were also in attendance. January is School Board Appreciation Month. Dr. Douglas took a moment to recognize and thank the Board for their hard work and dedication. He presented each of them with a certificate. Minutes from the December 12, 2017 regular session, December 15, 2017 expulsion hearing, and January 5, 2018 special session were approved as distributed. Mrs. Maples presented the financial statements for the three months ended December 31, 2017. The general fund ended the month with revenues exceeding expenditures by $1,859,009, increasing the fund balance to $23,385,858. The Child Nutrition Program statement reflects expenditures in excess of revenues for the month of $127,660 and an ending fund balance of $2,003,611. The financial statements and bank reconciliations were approved as submitted. Mrs. Maples also presented the 2018 budget amendment to reflect federal and state allocations received or adjusted since the original budget was approved. The 2018 budget amendment was approved as submitted. Mrs. Maples also presented the financing resolution for Ogle Stadium s field, turf and track. Regions Bank provided the proposal with the interest rate of 2.71%. The term of the loan is for 7 years. The resolution was approved as submitted. Dr. Douglas presented the certified and non-certified personnel agenda and it was approved as presented. He introduced our new Career Tech Supervisor, Mr. Shelton Cobb. Mr. Cobb comes to us from Huntsville, where he has been their Career Tech Supervisor for the past 7 years. We are excited to have him! (All approved personnel action will follow these notes.) Dr. Douglas presented the job description and salary schedule for an Athletic Director. Dr. Douglas explained that with a system our size, we really need an athletic director so that our Principals are not spending all of their time on these items. The job description and salary schedule was approved as submitted. (The job description and salary schedule will follow these notes.) Dr. Douglas presented the second reading of Board Policy Revision 5.10.7. Upon his recommendation that Board approved the revision as submitted. (The policy revision will follow these notes.)

2 Dr. Douglas also presented the feeder pattern changes to the Board for approval. We completed a work session, a faculty survey, and two community meetings to help give everyone a chance to hear the changes, as well as give their feedback. The Board approved the feeder pattern changes as submitted. (The diagram will follow these notes.) Dr. Douglas asked Mr. Lee Edminson to give a brief construction update. AHS: DHS: The meeting adjourned at approximately 4:45 p.m.
