Vote with Proposed Explanation Support rises further when voters hear an explanation of the new cost to homeowners in both renewal measures. Vote After Negative Information Support drops slightly after hearing negative information, but remains above the two-thirds threshold needed for passage. Some people say we should not support the Municipal Service Tax measure. In addition to all the other tax measures on the ballot, there will also be an increase in local sewer rates, adding to our already sky-high cost of living. We should not be increasing taxes, the City just needs to spend its funds more efficiently. Conclusions/Recommendations Polling indicates the City can continue to consider a measure for the November 2016 ballot. The City should consider a tax rate that is responsive to community desires for improvement of road maintenance and repair while maintaining vegetation removal for fire and flood prevention. Continuing to reach out to the community to remind them about the value of the current MST will both reinforce the need for the measure and serve as a reminder that this is a continuation measure, not a new tax. Communications should also seek to educate the community about oversight provisions and protection of an important local funding source for the important city services Mill Valley residents value.
