Rules for researchers Exemption from the rules on lapsing of residence permit Working partly in Denmark and partly abroad and the full-time employment requirement is abolished. Changing the job content within the same university without the researcher having to apply for a new residence and work permit. Sideline employment

Ph.D student before 2015 Allowed to work full-time at the university where you are enrolled In addition you are allowed to work 15 hours a week, as well as fulltime during the months of June, July and August. Your residence permit will lapse if you stay outside of Denmark for more than 6 months, or if you de-register at the CPR. (BF1/BF2) Job-search period of 6 months from the date you finished your education Can only be extended up to one year
Ph.D employee before 2015 Work according to the contract. No job-search period. Your residence permit will lapse if you stay outside of Denmark for more than 6 months, or if you de-register at the CPR. (BF1/BF2) If you need extension your residence permit or apply for the 6 months of job-search period you must fill in the application form PHD1.
Ph.D. after 2015 Allowed to work full-time at the university where you are enrolled, or at a company attached to the education. In addition you are allowed to work 20 hours a week, as well as fulltime during the months of June, July and August. Exemption from the rules on lapsing of residence permit. Job-search period of 6 months from the date you finished your education Can be extended up to two years
Job search permit All Ph.D. - students will get a 6 months job search permit If you have a residence permit as an employed PhD, you can apply for a 6 months job search permit (use application form PHD1). Documentation of when you are handing in your dissertation Entitled to work 20 hours a week - documentation of self support Application for the Job search permit must be submitted at the latest the day before your current permit expires. - otherwise you will have to apply from your home country. Accompanying family members must apply for a new residence permit Fee: 1.845 DKK (2016)

Establishment card Rights and obligations Duration: 2 years (can not be extended) Gives you the right to work as you like Possible to obtain residence permit for following family (Increase self support) Cannot receive unemployment benefits for new graduates (dimittenddagpenge) or any public assistance under the terms of the Active Social Policy Act (lov om aktiv socialpolitik) during your stay in Denmark
Dispensation How to apply for a dispensation to prevent your residence permit from lapsing
Dispensation to prevent your residency permit from lapsing Application form BF1 or BF2. No application fee no servicegoal (Greencard fee: 3320 DKK) It is possible to apply both before and after you leave Denmark, but you must apply before your residence permit expires. It must be your intention to remain outside Denmark temporarily, and you must have a specific purpose for leaving Denmark, e.g. education, internship, caring for close relatives, maternity leave If your spouse/partner remains in Denmark, and if he/she holds a temporary residence permit, his/her residence permit will normally lapse after six months as the requirement that you share the same address would no longer be met.
Application before you leave Denmark The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration recommends that you apply for dispensation before leaving Denmark. Submit application form BF1 Attach required documentation: Copy of your passport Documentation of the purpose of your stay outside of Denmark (e.g. statement from your educational institution)
Application after you have left Denmark You can apply that your residence permit not be considered as lapsed if you are outside Denmark and have exceeded the time limit, or if you have given up your residence if: it was your intention to return Denmark before the six month time limit you were prevented from returning to Denmark by unforeseen circumstances beyond your control. Such circumstances include: illness, imprisonment, war-like situations, natural disasters or problems leaving the country in which you were staying Submit application form BF2 as soon as possible. Attach required documentation: Copy of your passport Documentation of the unforeseen circumstance e.g. doctor s statement
