Adoption of the agenda Under rule 9 of the Committee s rules of procedure, the first item on the agenda of any session shall be the adoption of the agenda, unless the election of officers is required under rule 20. In accordance with rule 10, the Committee may revise the agenda during a session and may, as appropriate, add, defer or delete items. The provisional agenda for the eighteenth session was prepared by the Secretary-General, in consultation with the Chair of the Committee, pursuant to rule 8 of the rules of procedure. GE.17-08265(E)

2. Organizational matters The eighteenth session of the Committee will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva, in Room XVII at the Palais des Nations, from 14 to 31 August 2017. The 1st meeting of the session will be convened on Monday, 14 August, at 10 a.m. A representative of the Secretary-General will open the session. Pursuant to rule 29 of the rules of procedure, the meetings of the Committee shall be held in public, unless otherwise decided by the Committee. The Committee will consider matters concerning the organization of the eighteenth session, in particular the adoption of its programme of work, a draft of which is contained in the annex. 3. Report of the Chair on activities undertaken between the seventeenth and eighteenth sessions of the Committee The Committee will consider the report of the Chair on activities undertaken between the seventeenth and eighteenth sessions. 4. Submission of reports by parties to the Convention under article 35 The Committee will be updated on the reports received from parties to the Convention under article 35. In pursuance of established practice and in conformity with rule 41 of the rules of procedure, the Secretary-General has informed the parties concerned of the tentative dates 3

on which their reports have been scheduled for consideration by the Committee. A schedule for the consideration of reports submitted is set forth in the tentative programme of work annexed hereto. 6. Adoption of lists of issues concerning reports of parties to the Convention The Committee will adopt lists of issues on initial reports. 7. specialized agencies, organizations of persons The Committee will discuss how to strengthen cooperation with United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, non-governmental organizations, including organizations of persons with disabilities, and other competent bodies in order to enhance the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. Representatives of such organizations and bodies may seek to address the Committee. 8. General comments The Committee will review the progress made by the working group established to draft a general comment on article 19 of the Convention (living independently and being included in the community). The Committee will hold a day of general discussion on the right of persons with disabilities to equality and non-discrimination, as part of the process leading to the preparation of a draft general comment on that matter. 9. Methods of work of the Committee The Committee will consider its methods of work. 10. Future meetings The Committee will be informed of any developments relating to its future meetings. It will also consider the organization of its future work. 11. Implementation of General Assembly resolution 68/268 on strengthening and enhancing the effective functioning of the human rights treaty body system The Committee will consider the implementation of General Assembly resolution 68/268 on strengthening and enhancing the effective functioning of the human rights treaty body system. 12. Activities under the Optional Protocol to the Convention The Committee will consider the complaints submitted under the Optional Protocol to the Convention and the conduct of inquiries. 13. Adoption of the report on the eighteenth session Pursuant to rule 38 bis of its rules of procedure, the Committee may consider and adopt the report on its eighteenth session. 4
