MEA India-Philippines India and the Philippines have signed four agreements providing for co-operation in a number of areas, including defence and agriculture. The agreements were signed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte in Manila yesterday on the sidelines of the ASEAN and related summits. Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry Preeti Saran said in Manila that the pacts will boost cooperation in various spheres. 1. Defence co-operation and logistics and that is where we see immense potential for co-operation in defence sector. 2. Agriculture and again Prime Minister's visit to the Rice Research Institute was an important component as well. 3. Micro Small and Medium Enterprise sector 4. Co-operation between the Indian Council of World Affairs and the Philippines Foreign Service Institute. Ms Saran also said that both leaders agreed that the scourge of terrorism has to be dealt with effectively.

The bilateral component of Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit to the Philippines comes after 36 years.
