SCHC s The SCHC has several standing committees which undertake certain activities each year. In addition, special purpose committees are formed to coordinate specific events or address specific needs. We encourage all SCHC members to volunteer for one or more of our committees. The success of this organization depends completely upon volunteers giving of their time and talents to the activities that our members have said they want us to conduct. Only through the personal participation of actively engaged members, can we take this organization to the level we all want it to achieve. Check out our current active committees and then call or email us and let us know how you would like to become involved. Plan and present a proposed budget to Finance prior to obtaining BOD approval and prior to committing money. Members of committee plan and execute the Expo by scheduling events, vendors, participants, communications, program and all other activities associated with Expo. Coordinate with the President, First Vice President and Treasurer for Annual meeting requirements such as space and schedule. Coordinate with Sponsorship Chair; Horse Person of Year Award; and Electronic Media Specialist. Determine what the educational needs are and the best means of obtaining and providing up to date information on equine subjects, coordinate special educational activities as appropriate, obtaining speakers, written materials, web links and other pertinent information. Coordinate with Veterinary Counsel. Determine SCHC goals regarding youth; coordinate with and support other youth organizations such as FFA and 4-H. This is not part of the Youth Scholarship Program which is a separate program. Special s/programs with limited select members established with specific funding and/or requirements

Review proposed legislation that may impact the equine community/industry either negatively or positively. Notify the membership of all known legislation under consideration. Encourage SCHC members to contact their respective legislators on important issues and express their view(s). This committee may not try to influence legislation through lobbying. Update information through Electronic Media Specialist. Perform operational functions of membership approvals, promotions, recruiting, suspensions and terminations as approved by the Board. Recommend materials & programs to promote membership growth, orient new members, and provide sustaining benefits. Receive applications and forward payments to Treasurer, record all relevant information on members, mail/email info to new & renewing members, notify Electronic Media Specialist of links and sponsors, update newsletter mailing list (members, sponsors, other), publish updated membership list quarterly to Board members. Develop programs for providing better services to members, solicit input, and make recommendations to board. Insure that membership list is not shared with outside entities. Maintain close liaison with state and federal trails agencies. Notify members of public meetings regarding horse trails on public lands. Maintain contact with in-state Saddle clubs, regional trails organizations, national trails organizations, and other groups regarding trails. Coordinate any Horsemen s Council trail rides. Plan the Annual SCHC Trail Ride. Coordinate participation at the American Heart Association Ride. Update trail information to Electronic Media Specialist Coordinate with officers to use broad based communication programs to inform SCHC members of activities, events, and issues. Includes publishing 2 newsletters, maintaining web site, coordinating with committees for special notices or other information, and assisting others with special events communications.

Maintain Horse Help Hotline list of rescue and animal control contacts. Maintain and process Stallions to Geldings Grant funding applications from rescue groups and hardship individual cases. Arrange with vet in area of horses for the procedure at a reasonable price. Billing is made directly to the SCHC treasurer. Communicate with all parties. Provide emergency grant funding to assist rescue groups and individuals with emergency situations. Honor one person from that district who has made a sustained impact to help SC horses. Qualifications: 1) Resident of SC and reside in SC. 2) Demonstrate sustained (more than 4 years) of making impact for betterment of SC horses Solicit nominees from people throughout District. Select 1 nominee and present to BOD for approval in Dec. Provide an article with picture about the selected person to the Electronic Media Specialist and the Expo Chairperson by December 31. Order Award or Plaque.

The President assures that the Nominating which is chaired by the First Vice President- Administration is properly staffed in accordance with the By-Laws and executes its responsibilities which include soliciting recommendations for qualified personnel, preparing a list of nominees for the office of president and any board seat that may become vacant because of term expiration or other reasons, developing individual profiles, communicating nominations to Board and regular members well in advance of annual meeting, preparing ballots, and coordinating the elections process at the Annual Meeting. Maintain current list of sponsors, keep approved ad copy, send annual renewal notices or request that those who know the sponsor make contact for renewal, obtain sponsor recognition materials, communicate appreciation to sponsors, provide Electronic Media Specialist with sponsor info, solicit new sponsors, work with other board and council members to secure sponsors. The South Carolina Horsemen s Council is committed to providing scholarship funding to outstanding young equestrians in SC and sponsors the SC State Fair Equine Scholarship with the SC Farm Bureau Federation. The SCHC provides the funding for second place which is usually $1500. This is a specific criteria scholarship contest based on 500 points. The application process is handled through the SC State Fair 4-H Youth Horseshow. Heart Association Beach Ride is part of Trails. SC TASTE State Fair Camden Races
