Page 1 of 3 TRI-CITIES CHAPTER Washington Society of Professional Engineers REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARD Year of January 1 through December 31, 2008 1. Criteria for Tri-Cities Engineer of the Year Award: a) One Engineer may be nominated by each participating Technical Society local Chapter or Section. The Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE, will not submit a nominee. b) An Engineer may also be nominated by three or more Registered Professional Engineers following the same procedures as required for nominations by Technical Societies, except that each of the nominating Professional Engineers shall sign the nomination form c) Each nominee shall be a resident of, or work in, southeastern Washington. d) Each nominee shall have accomplished significant engineering work during the calendar year (e.g., January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008) for the award to be presented during Engineer's Week, February, 2009. e) Each nominee must be an Engineer who is engaged in engineering work within the nominating society's technical discipline. The "engineering work" may consist of engineering design, analysis, or other engineering functions performed directly by the Engineer, or such work that has been accomplished under the direct responsible charge of the Engineer. For nominations submitted under the provisions of b) above, the engineering work must be within the technical discipline of at least one of the nominating Professional Engineers. 2. Nominee Evaluation and Selection Data: a) Work-related data submitted shall be for projects or activities completed or in-progress only during the 2008 calendar year (see 1 d) above). b) Submit data for professional contributions including technical society activities, papers published, and patent awards completed or in-process during calendar year 2007 and/or 2008 only. c) Identify Community Contributions by the nominee performed during the years 2006 through 2008. d) The nominee shall complete Part I of the "Nomination for Engineer of the Year" data form (Attachment I). The technical society or the Professional Engineers sponsoring the nominee shall then review and verify Part I and complete Part II. The completed form (Part I and Part II) shall then be submitted to the Selection Committee Award Chairman or designated alternate as required by the Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE. Note that the attached form is not mandatory, however, the information requested must be presented in the same sequence. e) For information and approximate weighting of factors to be used for selection are shown on Attachment II.

Selection Committee: a) Chairman: The chairman of the Selection Committee shall be designated by the Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE. b) Membership: Up to four additional members of the Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE. 4. Selection Process: a) The Selection Committee will normally meet the third week of February at a time and place determined by the Chairman. b) The Selection Committee will review data on the qualifications of nominees and will use the rating sheets to compare candidates. The Selection Committee also may conduct personal or telephone interviews with the finalists or with all nominees, at the Committee's discretion. c) Decisions of the Selection Committee shall be final. 5. Presentation of Awards: a) Public announcement and presentation of Engineer of the Year awards will take place at the Engineers' Week Banquet in February. b) All nominees will be recognized at the awards presentation. A designated representative of the technical society or the Professional Engineers that submitted the nomination will be allocated approximately four minutes to speak on the Engineer of the Year's outstanding performance. c) Awards will be presented by the Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE. The Engineer of the Year Award will consist of an award plaque. Other nominees may also be presented with suitable awards. 6. Requirements for Participation: a) The Technical Society or Professional Engineers who intend to submit nominations must give notice to the Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE, at the email below, by January 19, 2009, stating that they wish to participate. b) The completed nomination forms (Parts I and II) and any supporting data must be submitted to the Tri- Cities Chapter, WSPE, by 5:00 p.m., February 9, 2009. E. 217 Douglass Ave Richland, WA 99352 or or teddya59@msn.com c) Two (2) posters describing the nominee and the nominee's accomplishments shall be prepared and delivered to the Chairman identified above (943.5845 or 531.8996 to make arrangements for delivery), by February 17, 2009. The posters shall be prepared in accordance with the requirements shown on Attachment III. The Tri-Cities Chapter, WSPE, assumes no responsibility or liability for the posters. It is therefore suggested that the posters do not include valuable hardware, samples, or other exhibits that
