FUTURISME II - The Future of Social Dialogue in SMEs Adaptability and Employability to the New Economy The project "Futurisme II" (2002-2003) is organised by UEAPME and the Academy Avignon (European SME Policy Think Tank) with financial support from the European Commission (European Social Fund). The project is based on the results of the "Futurisme I" project (2000-2001) on Social Dialogue in SMEs with a special focus on labour relations, enlargement and training. The Futurisme II project on Adaptability and Employability in a modern and dynamic economy aims to achieve three goals: raising awareness on new developments in the Social Dialogue and on new issues, which have to be tackled in the Social Dialogue; deepening the relations between the European, national, sectoral and regional levels of Social Dialogue for SMEs and improving the awareness of Trade Unions on the specific situation of small companies and their special needs; widening the scope of Social Dialogue for SMEs by involving SME organisations which are not officially recognised Social Partners: In order to achieve these goals three different instruments were developed: many experts from SME organisations and the scientific world elaborated in several discussions so-called "Discussions Papers" on new issues for the Social Dialogue related to the challenges from the new economy on adaptability and employability; UEAPME organised together with its Member Organisations two types of seminars: TYPE I (4 seminars) - with a focus on the special needs of a single organisation and its affiliates combined with best practices from other countries TYPE II (3 seminars) - with the aim of bringing "non social partner SME organisations closer to the social dialogue; On 2nd and 3rd October 2003 a final conference in Brussels will take place, where the results of the work will be presented and discussed in order to draw common conclusions and to disseminate the work being done. This final conference will give an opportunity to SME representatives from all Member States to meet with representatives from Trade Unions and European Institutions and to exchange their views on new developments in social dialogue and SME policies.
