Key Achievements 2009-2012 (1) Poverty Reduction and MDGs - Delivered over $ 180 million GFATM funds - Reduction in malaria cases from 7.5 million cases in 2001 to 2,3 million cases in 2009, and reduction of deaths from 35,000 in 2001 to 8,844 in 2009. - MDG Report produced in 2010 and debated by the Cabinet of Ministers - International Donor and Investment Conference for Eastern Sudan, December 2010, Kuwait (2) Governance and Rule of Law - 2010 General Elections held (first in 20 years) - 2011 South Sudan Referendum held - Establishment of local development planning structures and processes in Eastern Sudan and the Three Protocol Areas
Key Achievements 2009-2012 (3) Crisis Prevention and Recovery - Reintegration support provided to 4,000 XBs in East Sudan and 11,000 XBs in SKS and BNS - Crisis mapping completed in six states and information incorporated into state development plans - 14 local peace processes initiated and supported in SKS (8 are holding) - Recovery and peace-dividends provided to more than 800,000 people (Recovery and Rehabilitation Programme) (4) Environment Policy and institutional framework in place including: i) National Adaptation programme of Action (NAPA); ii) National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan; iii) Draft National Strategy for Reduction of Emission from Deforestation and Forest (REDD); and iv) Strategy for accessing the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
Planned Programme2013-2016 Support the implementation of the National Strategic Development Plan 2012-2016 Overall goal: to support the transition from relief to recovery and medium-and long-term development in Sudan Focus Areas: 1. Poverty Reduction, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Livelihoods 2. Inclusive Governance and Rule of Law 3. Social Cohesion, Peace Consolidation and Peace Dividends 4. Environment, energy, and natural resource management Specific attention given to gender equality, empowerment of women, environmental sustainability and conflict sensitivity Estimated Budget: US$ 380 million
Poverty Reduction, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Livelihoods Strengthen national/sub-national capacities to promote, plan, map and monitor progress towards the MDGs, Create employment opportunities, private sector development, and access to microfinance and social protection schemes. Support basic community assets/infrastructure to alleviate poverty Strengthen capacities to effectively respond to AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria
Inclusive Governance and Rule of Law Promote accountability of the public sector and citizen participation in public policy processes Strengthen states ability to provide public goods and services Support anti-corruption and human rights Support predictable and transparent resource allocation Develop capacities of rule of law/justice institutions Promote access to justice by vulnerable groups
Social Cohesion, Peace Consolidation and Peace Dividends Strengthen the ability of state and nonstate entities to manage and resolve conflicts Support community security, mine action and clearance & reintegration of excombatants Support livelihoods recovery, and durable solutions for internally displaced persons, returnees and refugees (community infrastructure and improved service provision) Support early recovery in Darfur through community stabilization and economic recovery
Environment, energy, and natural resource management Support state and non-state partners to address environmental degradation and natural resource management Reduce vulnerability and strengthen resilience of rural/urban communities to climate change Support protection of biodiversity and improvement of coastal zone management, agriculture productivity, drylandsand integrated water resource management Promote access to energy, energy efficiency, clean technologies/investment, and use of renewable energy sources
