Information Package Page 2 Important Dates Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Start of Nomination Period Nominations accepted at the Clerk s Office (26 Park Avenue, Burford) during regular working hours any time between the start of nomination period and Nomination Day. Note: Campaign contributions / expenses cannot commence before nomination papers are filed. Friday, July 27, 2018 Nomination Day Nominations must be received by 2:00 p.m. at the Clerk s Office (26 Park Avenue, Burford) to be eligible. Information Package Page 3 How to File a Nomination The following documents must be filed with the County of Brant Clerk s Office to comprise a complete Nomination Application Package: 1. Nomination Paper (Form 1) 2. Declaration of Qualifications 3. A minimum of 25 Endorsements from Eligible Electors (Form 2) not required for School Board Trustee Positions 4. Nomination Fee 5. Freedom of Information Release Please contact the Clerk s Office at 519-449-2451 or heather.boyd@brant.ca to make an appointment to file your papers. 1. Nomination Paper (Form 1) A print version of the nomination paper is attached or can be downloaded from the County of Brant Website. The Nomination Form and Declaration of Qualification must be signed in front of a Commissioner of Oaths for the County of Brant. 2. Declaration of Qualifications A print version of the Declaration of Qualifications form is attached or can be downloaded from the County of Brant Website. Information Package Page 4 3. Endorsement Signatures For nominations for Municipal Council positions, the nomination of a person must be endorsed by at least 25 persons. The persons endorsing must be eligible to vote on the day that they endorsed the nomination and the endorsement must be in writing, through the prescribed declaration (attached See Form 2). 4. Nomination Fee A fee of $200.00 for the position of Mayor or a fee of $100.00 for the positions of Councillor or School Board Trustee must be paid at the time of filing. Fees are payable by cash, debit, money order or certified cheque payable to the County of Brant. 5. Declaration of Qualifications A Declaration of Qualifications (for either Municipal or School Board Candidates) must be completed and signed by the candidate and filed with the Nomination package. A print version of this form is attached or can be downloaded from the County of Brant website. 6. Freedom of Information Release A County of Brant Freedom of Information Release must be completed and signed by the candidate and filed with the Nomination package. This document outlines what information about the candidate will be provided on the County of Brant website and election publications. Print versions of these forms are attached or can be downloaded from the County of Brant website. Reminder: Under the Municipal Elections Act, all documents and materials filed with or prepared by the clerk or any other election official are public records and may be inspected.

This document outlines detailed financial requirements for candidates in municipal and/or school board elections. Note: Candidates are no longer required to open a separate bank account if there are no contributions / expenses related to their campaign aside from the filing fee. For all others, a separate bank account is needed and receipts should be issued for every contribution and expense. Information regarding maximum contributions will be provided upon filing.
Information Package Page 6 Goods and services provided in lieu of contributions must be valued and accounted for on the financial statement. Any goods retained from a previous election must be valued (based on replacement) and accounted for. Withdrawal of Nomination A written withdrawal may be filed with the Clerk s office before 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day (Friday, July 27, 2018). Certification of Nominations The Clerk shall examine each nomination filed before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018 at which time all acceptable nominations will be certified. You may be contacted between filing and certification to provide additional documentation, if needed. At that time, the Clerk will declare one of the following for each of the offices available: Acclamation If the number of certified candidates is the same or less than the number to be elected, the candidates shall be elected by acclamation. Call for Additional Nominations If the number of certified candidates is less than the number to be elected, additional nominations may be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Election If the number of certified candidates is greater than the number to be elected, the list of candidates for the 2018 Municipal and School Board elections is finalized. Additional Materials A copy of the County of Brant Sign By-law, as amended, the County of Brant Procedure for Use of Corporate Resources, information regarding access to the Voters Lists, and other information from various agencies will be provided upon filing.
