CONSEQUENCES CATALAN INDEPENDENCE If Catalonia becomes independent, it would start its new life outside of the EU bloc. Catalonia would probably not be one of the EU member states because Spain would probably have a veto on its membership. Not being an EU member states means serious financial difficulty for Catalonia because twothirds of exports go to other EU countries.
