GPMC NEWS The Greater Pittsburgh Mustang Club Newsletter Visit our website at http://www.gpmc.org/ Volume 27 Issue 4 April, 2012 Next Meeting April 4, King s Restaurant, Harmarville On Old Route 28, just north of 910 Board Meeting 7:00 pm, General Meeting 7:30 pm Greetings Pony Lovers I hope you ve all had a chance to get your ponies out during this recent spell of summerlike weather. I must admit that our Mustang is still snuggly tucked away in our garage. As I write it looks like a return to typical March weather for several days. But I think it s only a matter of days until we can kiss this winter goodbye. We re planning a Spring Winery Run for Sunday, May 6 th. We re still working on the final details, but for now, be sure to mark your calendar so you ll be free to attend. We re still waiting to get the lodging details for July s Can-Am. As soon as we hear anything I ll let you know. The Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club has an action packed weekend planned for Can-Am on July 13-15. We ve been getting many inquiries from the Contact Us page on our new website, several of which have resulted in new members. Mary will have a complete report on all our new members at the next meeting. With the outdoor temps near record levels, I can t wait till we resume holding our meetings outdoors. But for the time being, we ll be back at King s in Harmarville for our next meeting on April 4 th. Keep those motors runnin, Ken

GPMC NEWS April 2012 Page 2 Minutes of March 7, 2012 Combined Board and General Meeting The combined meeting was called to order by Ken B., President, at 7:30 PM, at King s Restaurant, Harmarville. The sign -in sheet was passed around, and the 50/50 was sold by Dan N. New Members and Guests: None present. Minutes: The Feb. 1, 2012 Meeting Minutes were reviewed. It was moved by Jeff and 2 nd by Bob K. to approve the minutes. Motion carried. Correspondence: None. Treasurer's Report Feb. 2012: Jason U. reviewed income and expenses. Income consisted of Dues Renewals, 50/50 Raffle, and Merchandise Sales. Expenses were to Jennie for Wordpress Domain reimbursement, John for embroidered patches, and MCA Membership. It was moved by Jeff and 2 nd by Ed to accept the Treasurer s Report. Motion carried. Jason reported that the club s General Liability Insurance policy renewal is due April 1. He mentioned the policy amount and the aggregate policy amount. Jason stated the new premium increased from the previous year, but we cannot do any better with the cost. It was moved by Jason and 2 nd by Bob K. to pay the premium. Motion carried. Membership: Mary reported that renewal activities have been completed. We received two new members Jim B., and Tim B. whose membership came through the website and who is already a MCA member. The next quarterly Membership Directory update will be available next month. Newsletter: For Andrew, Ken reported that everything seems to be working out well for Andrew in W. VA. The deadline for the April Newsletter is March 15. Send photos, articles, and event info to Andrew at gpmc.newsletter@yahoo.com. Merchandise: John reported the new iron-on patches are in and cost $4.00 each. Thirteen have already been sold, and he still has old merchandise available. A discussion followed regarding the digital image of the patch. It was the consensus of the membership that the image is our property and should be returned to the club. John will contact the printer for its return. Webmaster: Jennie reported that members asked if there is a forum page where members can post comments and ask questions. She said this is available in the Members Only section. Our Facebook page is also available for viewers to ask questions. Jennie mentioned that the editors can edit the site. Also, she developed website e-mail addresses for officers (voluntary basis) which all end in @gpmc.org. Jennie added that the Bylaws are included on the site but asked if we need to include our Policies and Procedures Manual. Jennie reported she received an inquiry from an out-of-state vendor who was interested in being a sponsor and who wanted to give us a couple of sample items in exchange for having a full page on our website devoted to his business. She is against this idea, and asked if this a Board or Membership decision? She stated that having paid advertising on the website implies endorsement, and we need to be selective in which ads are accepted. Jennie also added that advertisers on our website are currently members only. Carl and Jason suggested leaving this somewhat open-ended and subject to review. To be an advertiser it was the consensus that they should be a member and local. It was moved by Bob K. and 2 nd by Jennie B. that our advertising policy on the website and in the newsletter states that advertising is subject to review by the Board of Directors and Membership. Motion carried. There will be further discussion as to what to put into the Policies and Procedures Manual. Jennie noted we are getting a lot of activity on the site on 2-14-12, 545 views and on 2-27-12, 537 views. Visitors who do not have the website address are finding it through search engines and on links from the Pgh Vintage Grand Prix, Hubcap Café, MCA, our Facebook page, etc. Jennie is open to suggestions for improving the site. TRCCC: For Ron, Ken reported that no meeting was held since the last time. Ken stated there is a discussion about using the car owner s old plate on the antique vehicle rather than purchasing an antique/classic plate. MCA: Ed reported we applied for our 6 th President s Award. However, Carl brought in a MCA award we received in 1999. We are applying for our 7 th award. We may be the only club with six awards. The National Shows with estimated mileage and time from Pittsburgh are on the new GPMC website. Eagle One Award: Ed reported we did not win this award. The Grand Prize winner was the Colorado Corvette Club. During the Christmas holiday season, they donated baskets containing a complete Christmas dinner and enough food for a week that fed over 1,000 needy family members, primarily children.

GPMC NEWS April 2012 Page 3 Activities/Event Wrap-up: Dwight reported that 14 couples attended the Valentine s Outing at the Phipps Conservatory. The cost was $6/person if you wore a flowered shirt. Dinner was at the Hofbrau House. Nothing is scheduled for March. He is trying to schedule a visit to the Heinz History Center in April with lunch or dinner afterwards. Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival/Winery Tour is Sept. 7-9, 2012. Dwight reported that a block of hotel rooms have been reserved and there are one or two rooms left. About 13 cars are registered (10 from Pgh., 2 from Rochester, and 1 from Canada). Dwight also reported he booked Pavilion #3 (same as last year) at Monroeville Park for our Hospitality Picnic on Sunday, August 5. Bill and ValJean R. will chair the event. Upcoming Events: Listed in the newsletter and on the website. Ken reported on the Spring Winery Run sometime in early May. He is considering either Foxburg or Blairsville. Let him know if you have any suggestions. Regarding the CanAm in Erie, the date was changed to July 13-15, so as not to conflict with our All Ford Show. Ken is waiting to hear back on lodging options. Ken reported on the Vintage Grand Prix scheduled for July 21-22. Jason mentioned that in prior years the big tent, behind our tent, provided meals for spectators for $10/person. Also discussed was Patron Parking this year. A single space is $200, but two spaces cost $400-a $50 increase from last year. Discussion followed as to whether or not to purchase two spaces that might put a drain on our charity donation. A perk for volunteering to be in charge of set up is the chance to be in the Patron Parade around the track. A motion was made by Dan C. and 2 nd by Bob K. to purchase one parking space. Motion carried. Ed reported on the 14 th All Ford-Powered Show to be held on Sun., June 10, 2012, at Shults Ford in Harmarville and named The Tom Cavataio Memorial Show. Charity will be University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) wishes of Tom s family. Two thank you notes from Tom s family were circulated. Registration is $10 by June 8 and $12 afterwards. Prices for the T-shirts are $15 and $17 - (plus $2 at show). Class Change: Class A is now 1964½ to 1973 stock. (Few 69-73 registered last year). Judging will be changed to Judges Choice awards for everyone except GPMC vehicles. Judges Choice is patterned after 2012 MCA changes. We plan to have six teams of two members each and we ll have a judges meeting on show day to go over judging procedure. It s estimated each team should be completed in about an hour. GPMC Vehicle voting by members only. The tentative plan is for each GPMC entrant to get three tickets and voting containers will be placed in front of each vehicle. Ed mentioned that the Grand National, National Shows and other events are listed in Mustang Times. Regarding Starlite, the final dates are June 22 for Mustang Night and July 27 for Starlite Service Night. The Holiday Party will be organized by Mike and Erin D. Old Business: None New Business: None Other: Jeff won the 50/50. Next meeting will be held on Wed., April 4, 2012 at King s, Harmarville, at 7:00 PM. Adjournment: It was moved by Jennie and 2 nd by Dwight to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
