The Newsletter of Jerrabomberra Rotary RI District 9710 Volume 19 No.33 Support the Rotary Foundation! Meeting 875 25 th February, 2016 Weekly Headlines A NICE COMMENT FROM KERRIE McPHERSON HE SENDS HIS REGARD S TO ALL! Hi Chris, Even though Lynne and I have called off Rotary for the time being I do enjoy receiving and reading it every week. But having very recently returned for three weeks in Cambodia, " Jans comment that she doesn't know anyone younger than 70" in the latest Jerraganda was very poignant as it was pointed out to me to see if I could see any Cambodian male over the age of 70 (this was after I had told a local family I was 72), Pol Pot had had all old males executed as they were to old to work for the regime. I did meet a 70 plus man and his 82 wife, felt very honoured. Keep up with the good work on the Ganda and give my regards to all. Welcome to the Dear Pres Mez We wish you a very speedy recovery and not too much pain. Sorry there have been a few problems. Happy rehabilitation days ahead, we hope! Kerry P.S.: Thanks so much Kerry appreciate the feedback! Best wishes to you both! NEXT MEETING THURSDAY, 3 RD MARCH Yes IT WILL BE AT THE SCHOOL SAME VENUE SAME TIME See you there, we hope! Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentoring the development of the new club. (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President). Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 26 members. Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Store the venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years, and we now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). (Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club Newsletter and a design for the Club banner. There were some good and some not so good suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name Jerraganda and David Stevens was the successful designer of our club banner. The design incorporated a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate adjacent to the Community Centre. Both the Jerraganda and the Club logo have evolved to keep pace with modern times. We have always been, and continue to be, a vibrant and fun loving club providing valued community service, both locally and internationally.
