Chairman Lee has stated that religious leaders have an integral role in educating their congregations that differences in religious beliefs must not hinder the progress of establishing world peace. He urges the leaders to cooperate with HWPL for the unity of religions. HWPL s World Alliance of Religions Peace (WARP) Office is a forum for dialogue centering on world peace in interfaith relations and scriptural texts. It aims to prevent the conflicts caused by religious misunderstandings and bring forth peace through gaining deeper understandings of the standards and teachings of each religion and the concept of peace spoken about in each scripture. 2015 HWPL International Conference: Presentation of the Convention on the Renunciation and Cessation of War and International Armed Conflicts On the second day of the 1st Annual Commemoration of September 18th World Alliance of Religions Peace (WARP) Summit, HWPL presented the Convention on the Renunciation and Cessation of War and International Armed Conflicts at 2015 International Conference. The convention stresses the need to strengthen the provisions for renouncing war and other international armed conflicts and further calls on states to abide by those provisions. HWPL initiated this project with the intent to settle armed conflicts only by peaceful means. The convention, upon its presentation at the conference, garnered support from not only legal professionals but also youth, women, and journalists who were in attendance. Chairman Lee of HWPL addressed that the Implementation of an International Convention on the Cessation of War is a brilliant work in the history of the achievement of the cessation of war and world peace and will be remembered for eternity. Chairwoman Kim of the IWPG stated that the 1st Annual Commemoration of the WARP Summit is the platform provided for the implementation of the international convention which is the core business of HWPL. The conference was attended by over 300 people including international law experts as well as political, youth, women, and religious leaders from around the world. Among the attendees were Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, the chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, who signed a peace agreement with the Philippines government, Dr. Fathi Kemicha, former member of the UN International Law Commission, and Dr. Kamal Hossain, the vice-chair of the International Law Association. Also, former and current heads of state and many UN officials joined them in the work for peace, supporting the presentation of the first draft of the convention which is an unprecedented work that drew a stroke in the history of peace. 10 Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light 11

Panel Discussion on the Convention on the Renunciation and Cessation of War and International Armed Conflicts During the discussion, a panel of twelve world-renowned international law experts presented their views on the convention on the cessation of war and pledged to work together for the implementation of the convention. As the first step for this purpose, the international law experts and scholars discussed practical ways to draft the most essential provisions based on the draft convention that HWPL prepared in advance. The members of the IPYG and the IWPG were also in the audience of the panel discussion. On the previous day, hundreds of their members signed the statement to urge for the implementation of an International Convention on the Cessation of War and Achievement of World Peace. The convention is meaningful to the youth and women of the world since it addresses the tragedy of lives lost in the midst of wars and conflicts and further states that the majority of those affected are the youth and women. Moreover, it emphasizes the role of the youth and women in achieving peace. After an in-depth discussion on such a convention, HWPL appointed the thirteen legal professionals as members of the HWPL International Law Peace Committee. Through discussion and modification by the committee members, the draft convention will be improved into a complete and applicable international convention. In order to further the implementation process, HWPL suggests the Declaration of the Cessation of War to be firstly announced to heads of state around the world. Following the declaration, the final convention shall be sent to the head of each state to propose implementation. HWPL is capable of HWPL is also capable of cooperating with the UN as its affiliate organizations, IWPG and IPYG, of various countries are also affiliated with the UN. At the panel discussion, Chairman Lee stated, Our future generations can inherit peace only if the international law experts do their part, and further requested them to make good laws to make the world a better place. The HWPL International Law Peace Committee *On Sep 19th 2015, during the Panel Discussion at the 1st Annual Commemoration of September 18th WARP Summit, thirteen legal professionals including Dr. Kamal Hossain and Marcilio Franca Filho were appointed as HWPL International Law Peace Committee. 12 Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light 13

HWPL Chairman Answers to FAQ Q. What is the meaning of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL)? It means when the light of heaven shines in the hearts of people, it becomes the light that never fades away. Q. What is the purpose of HWPL? The purpose of HWPL is to bring about the cessation of war and establish peace as an inheritance for future generations. Q. Could you give concrete examples of the work HWPL is doing to achieve its purpose? Is there anything else you would like to say regarding world peace? HWPL is holding meetings with former and current heads of state, chief justices, religious leaders, university presidents, and heads of various organizations around the world. At these meetings, we discuss peace and the cessation of war and sign peace agreements with them. On the 25th of May each year, we hold the World Peace Walk through our branches in South Korea and abroad. Monuments to the Success of the WARP Summit are also being erected in various locations around the world, instilling hope for peace in the hearts of many. We are also working towards the implementation of an international convention on the cessation of war, and establishing HWPL World Alliance of Religions Peace Offices. At the upcoming 1st Annual Commemoration of September 18th World Alliance of Religions Peace Summit, a draft convention on the cessation of war through which we expect to resolve armed conflicts of the world will be presented. Q. What is the role of the IWPG and IPYG? A bird cannot fly with only one wing, and a person cannot run with only one leg. Likewise, the IWPG and IPYG serve as the two wings of peace, making it possible for HWPL to soar. Together they are protecting the women and youth of the world, who are mothers and children, for the co-prosperity of mankind. The only way to ultimately protect them is to put an end to all wars and bring about peace. Q. What is the message that HWPL wants to convey to the world? The purpose that HWPL is pursuing to achieve peace is not idealistic but actually realizable. Hence, if we undertake this work, it will be done. It is not that conflicts come about naturally because the world exists; people initiate and aggravate those conflicts. HWPL is working with a definite solution for achieving world peace and the cessation of war. Creating peace is not the responsibility of a single individual, country, or organization. Peace came to Mindanao, a land that had suffered from a 40-year conflict. A monument of peace was erected in the region, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) handed over their weapons to the government, and festivals of peace are continuing. At the 2014 World Alliance of Religions Peace (WARP) Summit, former and current heads of state and religious leaders signed the peace agreement in the sight of God and all people of the world, with heaven and earth as witnesses. They pledged to work towards the implementation of an international convention on the cessation of war and towards the unity of religions for the sake of world peace. HWPL has made various achievements including the Mindanao Peace Agreement signed on January 24th, the Declaration of World Peace proclaimed on May 25th at the Peace Square in Seoul, and the WARP Summit held on September 16-19th in Seoul. World peace can be achieved through the implementation of the international convention and the unity of religions. All people of the world must become messengers of peace. As each person s heart is governed by the heavens, if we take action, it will be accomplished. I sincerely hope all of you will become messengers of peace. When the light of heaven shines in the hearts of people, it becomes the light that never fades away. 14 Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light 15
