DRED SCOTT FREEDOM AWARDS DINNER MARCH 18, 2018 The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation was established in 2006 for the purposes of Commemoration, Education and Reconciliation. Harriet and Dred Scott both sued separately for their freedom in St. Louis on April 6, 1846, and it took eleven years and five court proceedings to deny them their freedom at the Supreme Court. Their courageous journey was a major factor in causing the Civil War and the abolition of slavery with the 13 th Amendment. Their persistence and tenacious fight for their freedom were major contributions to establishing freedom from bondage of the African descended slaves in America. In July of 2018, the 14th Amendment, also known as the Dred Scott Amendment, will be 150 year old. Last year, on March 6, the 160th anniversary, we had an incredibly historic event, a nationally recognized apology by a Taney descendant. In 2012, our Foundation undertook to honor Dred and Harriet Scott. We commissioned, created and installed a statue of the Scotts, which now stands outside the Old Courthouse on 4 th Street facing the Gateway Arch. The 2nd Dred Scott Freedom Awards Dinner will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Hilton Frontenac at Clayton and Lindbergh in St. Louis, MO. This dinner will recognize individuals that have contributed to the improvement of society in their chosen fields and for civil rights. As a fund raiser for the Foundation, we are continuing the Foundation s work on future educational programs, innovative social justice projects, advancing the work of Dred Scott Presents: Sons and Daughter of Reconciliation and establishing the groundwork for the envisioned Dred Scott Education and Reconciliation Center. We are proud to announce our honorary Co-Chairs, the Honorable Judge Judy Draper, Associate Circuit Court for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court and the Honorable George Draper, Justice of the Missouri Supreme Court. Their devotion to justice and equality are especially inspiring to this event. We ask for your participation and presence as sponsors as we solicit support for these groundbreaking programs. We are asking sponsors to help underwrite the dinner and or be a sponsoring organization. Tickets are $100.00 and VIP tickets are $150.00. See the attached packet details. Our dinner chair is Ms. Peggy Lewis LeCompte, a Foundation board member. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or contact Peggy at 618-593-7196 or by Email: tlodpresident10@aol.com.
