Tecumseh- Shawnee chief sought to form an Indian Confederacy negotiated w/ GB for help we later discovered Indians used arms from GB war hawks- young congressmen that called for war w/ GB led by John Calhoun & Henry Clay

USS Constitution (Old Ironsides)-1 of 3 44 gun frigates still a commissioned ship in Boston (oldest in the world) symbol of Uncle Sam came into use during the War of 1812 and was supposedly named for Samuel Wilson, a owner of a meat-packing business

The lyrics for our national anthem come from the "Defense of Fort M'Henry", a poem written on September 14, 1814, by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore. The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. "To Anacreon in Heaven" was already popular in the United States. Set to Key's poem and renamed "The Star-Spangled Banner. Although the poem has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today. The Star-Spangled Banner" was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931.
