MARKET SNAPSHOT New York DMA The New York Designated Market Area (DMA) is the most populous and densely populated area in the U.S. with a total 2016 population of 21,438,229 and a population density of 1,886 persons per square mile. The population density of Manhattan is 71,436 persons per square mile. The New York DMA includes all five boroughs of New York City, all of Long Island, portions of New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pike County, Pennsylvania. There are 7,879,425 households in the DMA and the median annual household income is nearly $70,000. The racial and ethnic mix of New York is extremely complex. The non-hispanic White population, made up of many different European ethnicities is currently about 48% of the population, but by 2021 will represent 46% of the total as multicultural segments grow to 54% of the total population.
