Page 4 of 6 ROAD AND BRIDGE ENGINEER HARRY WALKER 11. Consider & take action to approve the resolution between the Texas Department of Transportation and Grimes County regarding bridge replacement on Old Millican Road at Cedar Creek and authorize the County Judge as signatory. (See Attachment #11.) ROAD AND BRIDGE REPORT: Hurricane Harvey: Grimes County experienced anywhere from 22-29 inches of rain due to Hurricane Harvey, over a three-day period. Road and Bridge crews closed 41 roads due to flooding, and 5 additional locations due to damages from the storm. Approximately 370 hours of overtime were expended on the storm response. As of Friday, September 1 st, all roads were reopened and passable except for Tree Bend (damage) and CR 102, 162, and 403 in the river bottoms, where the flood waters had not yet gone down. Five bridges suffered structural damages, two of which are significant enough to require a contractor to repair. Several others suffered minor damage asphalt delamination, etc. R&B crews have repaired three bridges already and one will be repaired in the future. Bridge inspections are being made of all bridges in the County to determine if there is any more damage. Repairs to washouts and other damage to the County roads will continue for the next several weeks, but we are already able to return to normal activities in many cases. As of Tuesday, September 5 th, the water was down on all locations and Department personnel were able to make inspections. Only Tree Bend remains closed and repairs are underway at this time. Overall, the County fared better than expected for the amount of rain that fell. Efforts by the County over the past few years to repair damage from prior flooding and to improve the drainage system in general appear to be significant contributing factors to the relatively limited damage experienced in Grimes County. The response during and after the storm was efficient and prompt, as was the coordination between R&B, the Sheriff s Department, and the EMC. I am pleased with the response and am very proud of the efforts by R&B personnel across the board. COMMISSIONER HUSFELD AND COMMISSIONER MALLETT 12. Consider and take action to approve the architect contract with PGAL on the new county facility and authorize the Commissioners Court as signatories. COUNTY JUDGE BEN LEMAN 13. Consider and take action regarding the Burn Ban and authorize the County Judge as signatory.
