EDUCATION CENTRAL Sunday, October 25, 2015 4:00PM Parliamentary Procedures: Refreshing Your Mind On How It All Works The New Officers & Committee Orientation is a mandatory session for all officers. This includes Elected National Officers, Appointed Officers, District Governors, Committee Chairs & Co-Chairs, State Presidents & State Secretaries. The purpose of this session is to learn the in and outs of your duties as a national officer and committee chairperson. As a part of the new officers and committee orientation, an educational presentation will be offered (1 CEU), discussing parliamentary procedures. This session will be facilitated by our association friend, Mr. Maurice S. Henderson of the National Parliamentarian Association. Parliamentary procedure is simple in principle. It is based largely on common sense and courtesy. It just seems technical due to the special vocabulary used. If the vocabulary is understood, the rules are easy. Attendees will refresh their knowledge of parliamentary procedures. Attendees will learn and be refreshed on the Basics of Parliamentary Procedures, Motions, Process for Handling a Motion, Discussions of a Motion, Amending a Motion and Voting. Maurice S. Henderson, Professional Registered Parliamentarian, has been serving as a professional parliamentarian since 2002. He has been studying parliamentary procedure since 1986 and joined the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) in 2000. He served on the NAP Board of Directors from 2005-2013. He served as President of NAP from 2011-2013 and is now the Immediate Past President. Prior to serving as NAP President, he served as Vice-President, Directorat-Large, and two terms as Bylaws Committee Chairman. Before becoming a leader for the National Association of Parliamentarians, he served in many elected positions for the Michigan State Association of Parliamentarians, including as MSAP President. Maurice has been serving as Michigan s Executive Director for the Business Professionals of America student organization since 1993. He has a bachelor s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University and a master s of arts degree in teaching/vocational education from Wayne State University. 5
